sand and small particles of dirt can and will easily scratch dirt. I can be sure that you are not 100% clean in everything you do and that sand/dirt has often accumulated in your pockets thus scratching the glass. Metal is softer than glass therefore it is not going to scratch the screen.

The iPhones and iPod touches come with a plastic film over the screen so unless u took that off u probably got the scratches in that. But go to an apple store, buy the screen protectors and have them put it on for u they will do a much better job than any one ever could :) hope this helped :)

The only things that can scratch the iphone screen is sand particles, keys(rubing against really hard), and other glass or anything stonger than glass like for example diamonds. Plus you could get a screen replacement from apple.

for some reason, all of the scratches on my ipod touch 1g screen happened withing the same week, one is over an inch long and causes a rainbow affect in that area. What's stupid is that i took a razor and utility knife and tried as hard as i could to scratch the screen and nothing happened, a couple hours in my pocket gives me this big ass scratch. I saw some guy used sand paper and polish to get rid of some huge scratches.
