  • Hey guys! I've uploaded a video where I show the trick that lets you hold aloft your head instead of the trophy. Swing by my channel to check it out! =D

  • EPIC music get goosebumps just hearing it! nostalgia at its finest thanks for the vid

  • 8:02 LOOK OUT1 BEES!

  • Remebering playing this all the time as a kid, didnt get very far though but enjoyed it.

  • the intro song is so...

    so...

    so..

    CLASSIC, EPIC, AWESOME...

    remember me a lot...

  • BESTOWAL = LOTUS

  • @russotragik bestowal was meant to be benetton and losel was lotus check wikipedia

  • I remember being super bad at this game lol....I was like 6 though :P God I miss my sega genesis :(

  • Classic MD game, but number 2 is better.

  • best starting screen EVAR!

  • The black car...unbeatable...

  • im going to go on ebay and get myself a sega and buy all my old games :)

  • It's interesting...

  • this game was way too easy, i challeneged the first just at the beginning, wont the first 2 races easily and got the best car >_> but i remember that bitch bot that challenges you after the first season and you just cant get him in the first race, kinda fucked up ;D

  • I remember this game for one thing only... The woman at the start.

  • awesome music at 2:11

  • absolute classic game, down loaded it on an emulater, loved it , spend days missing school and education becasue of this game

  • I used to play this game a lot when I was around 7 years old, and still now I think it's one of the most entertaining racing games I have ever played.

  • good!

  • You know when a piece of music triggers a huge memory of something that you have. Well the main theme music of this game triggers pretty much every childhood memory I have between the ages of 4 and 10. What a classic!!

  • when you on 03:06 smashed that bord it whas the first game of f1 when i saw damage

  • my childhood lol

  • please tell me I'm not only person that loved "Concentration" on this game!

  • Woo!! Finland!!

  • I remember digging My Genesis out of the closet back in 1998 after being involved in a Motorcycle accident and being temporarily disabled.

I played Super Monaco GP one handed propped up on My elbow with the controller laying next to Me on the bed.

I got so good I could win the Championship driving for Team Zeroforce, yes I would challenge and beat Team Zeroforce to take over the ride.

To take over a ride You just beat a rival in two consecutive races and the car is Yours.

  • Love the cockpit view that this games utilizes, cool seeing your driver's hand turn the wheel.

  • This and the first Sonic were my first video games I got in Christmas of 89. Great memories!

  • I know what you mean about how these games were when you were a kid. When I was little and I beat a game the feeling was indescribable. Sometimes it is really disappointing to go back to these games now and not feel that same way.

  • Boy are you in trouble, Mark!

  • I rented this game so much that the owner of the store gave it to my brother and I for Christmas

  • I played the crap outta this game in the arcade. It was basically the Monaco track with a steering wheel and paddle shifters! Graphics and gameplay were amazing for early '90s.

  • My freinds donated me a bunch of Genesis games. Including Michael Jackson's moonwalker with case, Jungle book with the case as well, Contra: Hard Corps, etc. they also gave me the case of Super monaco GP, but no game :(

  • @mistertitanic

Contra: Hard Corps is worth like 40 bucks... lucky!

  • @Mrgyn It's an awesome game!! Im even happier with M.J.s moonwalker, that one is worth $50 annd I got it with the case for free!!!

  • This is my all time favourite racing game, played this and Super Monaco GP 2 for years when I was a kid. I love the music on it and the fact that it actually had realism that most racing games at the time didn't have. Like the slipstream you could get behind a car at speed and also how the road had elevation, it was advanced for it's time!

  • 3 people don't think it's interesting

  • I too grew up playing the hell out of this game. If you beat it, and carry on playing you are challenged by an unbeatable (literally) Firenze driver and demoted.

    Great review, great game. Thanks.

  • hmm.... team May from Great Britain....

  • I used to be very bad playing this when I was 7 and crashing all the time. But 16 years later, I finally conquered it (except beating G. Ceara aka Ayrton Senna which is hard and he's the only reason I came back playing this game.)

  • ALL of the games developed by Sega back in the days were good. I can't really think of one sub par title developed by them.

  • i still have this on my genesis

  • i love this game! is my all time favourite im hooked on mega drive collection on xbox 360, must get on ebay and get a mega drive and this game! also, brilliant review!

  • lol! the engine of the car is the "Sega SG1000" , the name of their first home console in Japan. It came out around the time of the Intellivision / Colecovision and was similar. There's even a European console called the Dina 2-in-1 that is a Colecovision and SG-1000 mixed together. Awesome reference!

  • A far, far cry from the 1979 "Monaco GP" arcade game, which seemed to be scrolling upward.

  • "What they are really saying is you're so bad we're f*cked anyways. Our original driver OD'd on Cocaine at a nightclub." -- Best line of the video. laughed so much

  • hilarious commentary,i used to play the shit outta this game and do the same thing to my rivals lmao

  • I picked this game up for £1 the other day. Now alll i need is a Mega Drive XD

  • 02:30 Finland!! Yay!!

  • I'm sorry, but Team Rigel (Even though they're from Finland) are clearly a parody of driver Nigel Mansell...

"I'm still nowhere as good as I used to be..."

You sound like some sort of strange, honest version of Michael Schumacher!

"This is the Suzuka track, which I believe is based on a real circuit..."

Sorry, but isn't it a bit obvious that they all are?

    Good review!

  • I played this game so much when I was young that I had a B inprint on my thumb

  • Eu era feliz e não sabia...

  • 6:34 - What's he doing? Did he prick his thumb? It's like he's nursing his wound.

  • 380 km/h - LMAO

  • love this game. why did i sell my mega drive?!?

  • This was My first race car game, I could Not stand the accelerator & brakes being on the hand controller while trying to shift gears while taking corners so I built a foot control peddle which was good for other games too & always used the 7 speed I could win at every track even with Zeroforce & I remember the record breaking speeds trying to beat Ceara even over lapping the other cars & even though I beat him at later tracks they would Never give Me back the Madonna & yes I would-----

  • @ortafunk ----- hit the Idiot standing In the middle of the track but Not fast just enough to teach him a lesson Not to stand In the middle of the track with race cars flying past at over 200 mph.

  • Ahh, This was the first racing game i ever played. Good times. Then it was Gran Turismo, Also good times.

  • KEEP IT UP!

  • do a review of moon patrol

  • You only do console racing games? You should try some PC racing games, maybe Grand Prix Legends or Nascar Racing (1,2, 2002, 2003).

My first racing simulator games was from Accolade on the C64, which is somewhat simular to this game (which I never played).

  • GENESIS DOES!!! xD (what nintendon't)

  • Managed to get a boxed copy of this game for only £2.83 on Amazon. Great game.

  • I should never have sold Mega Games 3. But I dealt with that today, by buying it back, and Super Maonaco GP 2, which I have never played before. Love that you can actually save your game with 6 slots on SMGP2! No more massive passwords!

  • @Lorric101 I always remember SMGP2 being MUCH harder than SMGP1, I have Mega Games 3 boxed away somewhere in my loft, the one with Alien Storm and Super Thunderblade? lol, I just downloaded an emulator so I can play these games on my PC with my PC pad, it's just not the same though :( I can feel a hunt coming on for the old megadrive 2!

  • @alanb783 Yes, that's the one. I like Alien Storm, but not Thunderblade.

It is much harder. It's quite a challenge.

  • @alanb783 Oh, have a look on youtube for the footage of the arcade version of Alien Storm if you've never seen it. It's quite different. It's worth it just to see the "Alien Busters" logo.

  • Is this game available on the 360/Ps3 on any classic game collections or do I have to buy an old genesis somewhere???

  • i was usless at this game v_v

  • I loved this game and the "Competition" song. I have it in my Genesis collection. Took me several weeks to finish the game, I remember a new driver called "Ceara", that son of a bitch that take you out from Maddonna team. Then I realized that Ceara was Senna in he game. Anyway, great game, so many memories.

  • great, great memories

  • 6:36 Zack Morris?

  • Oh I remember this game. I remember there are 4 Levels, and I sometimes picked the Green guy ... Rigel lol. I like green...

  • i remember the loooong-ass password that you were given when you saved a game lol

  • did anyone else ever try and run over the guy with chequered flag?

  • If you run a rival over, sometimes the rival says "We don't want you to be our rival anymore"... can you still get to his team if you beat him again.

  • How many of you used to jerk off to the blond at the start when you first realized that something down there was starting to 'change' lol

    Can't say I didn't when I was in grade 5

  • this guy drives fatal¡¡¡

  • this was 1 of my fav games of all on sega, started with automatic then used manual till the end ... great game

  • Do you remember?? There was a way to actually see a UFO flying on the horizon & even i think there was a balloon

    TRUE!!

  • West Germany...LOL!

  • Everybody sucks when they play games they used to remember. Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog 2... etc. I used to spend hours playing these games, and was good at them back then. When I play them now, it's "How come I suck?"

  • @FascistFrenchman I'm still good at revenge of shinobi, that game was so hard it just burned into my brain and never left. I do suck at super monaco gp though and I used to be the shit when I was 7

  • the music is so ace man the best driving game made

  • SUPER MONACO GP 2, I had that...

    I loved it very much...

  • Lol this review just made me think are you right? Is the reason I love racing sims inadvertantly because of super monaco gp?

I was absolutely obsessed with this game as a kid... completely. Fuck team madonna. Dicks.

  • i loved this a blast from the past i wish i had it back and a fantastic vid mate well done

  • I remember playing Gran Turismo 3, going on to Cote d'Azur, and thinking "Why does this track seem familiar?"

  • I gotta get this game out again.

  • one of the all time great games.i remember the cheat after you won the monaco gp in the wet (2nd race), there was a way you could lift a head instead of the trophy on the podium!

  • yeah I had a video of that on my old youtube account, unfortunately the assholes over at YT deleted my account for "child violence" for killing a kid in Fallout 3... fuck' em...

  • hahaah are u kidding?

for killing a kid in Fallout 3?

    :O

  • yeah man, fuck these assholes at youtube... Bryan Wilks was the boy I brutalized... bashed the fucker's head in with the tenderizer then set his body parts on fire

  • @zidannyblanc yeah keep holding abc when you win I think

  • i remember when i was like ... 5 - 9 years old , playing this game with my dad... took a few tries to beat g. ceara , damn , good times ... good times... dunno why my dad always liked the blanche car , it always broke on the last lap , i liked tyrant better...

  • It took me years to find out that keeping your Madonna IS possible in San Marino and Brazil.

Good times... and motherfuckin' G. Ceara.

  • Comment removed

  • man o man...i was obsessed with this game when i was like 10. best game of all time i think...the one i enjoyed the most anyway.

  • Great game!!

  • FUCKING MINARAE CAR CAN'T TURN!!! (crappy suspension)

  • @JohnnyMidnight1 i used to just race the firenzi car 2x and get it for the rest of the races.

  • if you hit the guy with the flag he would fly up into the air

    XD

  • @kayandralovesemily xD classic

  • This is great!.. I was also 14 when I had at it with monaco. Loved it so damn much. Such a great racer!. CLASSIC! thanks for doing this review.

  • this game was hard, i hated when youm pressed up with suto the bloody car slowed down

  • Great game but alas I rarely won! It is true that you can never be as good as you were as a teenager at these games which is interesting.

  • I own it, and its very good to play with the Afterburner plane controller.

  • It's Cera's era now. Stupid, cheating Cera.

  • love this game, don't think I ever beat it

  • I bought Super Monaco GP for a good $1 from a used gaming store about 4 months ago and have hardly played it at all.

Now that I see the Mark reviewing this game with such promising words towards it, I think I'll whip it out again, especially since my Sega Genesis is hooked up right now, especially since I bought a Sega 6-button Arcade stick two days ago!

  • this and whip rush made spent months on my sega gen.

hard game at first, but the more you play the more you get into it

  • Very good graphics for a Sega

  • I think sega should remake monaco gp, but i mean a real effort not any half arsed money making sceam, i liked how you could interact with the other drivers and there was to a decree a minor story line if you look into it, when you win the championship, the next season no matter how fast you drive that son of a bicth beats you, its like rocky or something becouse you just want to beat him after that and regain your crown. kick ass 360 remake please....

  • Wow, was it really 20 years ago?! I watched your whole review, good work. Remember that desperate feeling of having your rival approaching in your rear view and aiming to simply take them out - think that was key to completing this game - ramming your opponent! Brilliant, now to seek out some more of your reviews...

  • @Roskopeeko If you ram your rival, you get a message at the end of race "we don't want to be our rival anymore" (or something to that effect), does that race still count towards beating your rival though...

  • This game rocked - i played this millions of times back in the day but never got over the way you got screwed out of the car you won the first season in - it was IMPOSSIBLE to beat your rival in the 1st 2 races of season 2 and it made me bitter! :)

  • Team Minarae aka Team Lotus. :-)

  • aka Team Minardi actually.

  • Yeah, at first I saw the shape and it is similar to the 98 and 99T, Lotus cars. But realized they all are. :-)

  • minarae = minardi, losel = lotus

  • Madonna-McLaren, Firenze-Ferrari, Millions-Lotus, Bestowal-Benetton, Blanche-Ligier, Tyrant-Tyrrell, May-March, Bullets-Arrows, Dardan-Dallara, Orchis-Onyx, Zeroforce-Zakspeed...

  • and madonna = mclaren =P

  • ah man this takes me back...

  • great review this is my all time favourite game growing up with this, the music the speed the quality simply brill but then all megadrive games were great, im still playing this now

  • lol i still have this game and a dusty megadrive.

i remember playing it as a kid and practising constantly until i could use the best manual gearbox

  • Yes, this was my favorite too. I played this all the time. Couldn't you run over the guy at the end? I remember him flying off the screen while waving the flag.. lol.

  • Yeah, that was fun haha

  • I owned at this game when I was 9 years old. This is actually the only racing game which I can play with manual transmission. It's sad. But Super Monaco GP is a lot easier with manual than auto transmission.

  • memories

  • Its impressive how fast this is

  • Pfff seriously i didn't buy that game because of that girly in the yellow bikini! Sexist! Sheesh!

But the game rocks nevertheless :) I loved it for my Sega Mega Drive!

  • lol i actually have this game

  • 06:25

I think that bloke looks like Xander from Buffy. How's that for an unrelated reference?

  • I had this and Monaco 2. I used to be so good at this I could get to the Firenze team in 3 races. Rival them at San Marino, I couldnt beat them at Brazil the long straight they would pull too far away, and then beat them at France.

I played it too much I think.

  • haha.. i know what you are talking about, when mentioning the Brazil course :O) lol how the years pass so quickly

  • I preferred this game over the technically superior 'Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix' for PC, Atari and Amiga.

This game is so realistic though, it doesn't let you just pick the best team and dominate, as EVERY other F1 game before and since does. What's the fun in picking the best team? Wheres the challenge in that?

  • One more thing. Who here would tilt their Genesis/Mega Drive controller in the belief it helped them to turn corners?! XD

  • Guilty as charged ^_^

  • I do like the fact that the engine in the car you have at the start of the game has 'SEGA SG1000' in. Google it if you don't know what I mean.

  • They all ARE actual race tracks or in some cases (including U.S.A.) street courses. Most of the tracks are still active on the F1 circuit.

  • this game looks great

  • "its interesting" lol

  • what's the soundtrack of the yellow car scene plz? thanks

  • This game is awesome! keep doing these reviews man...

  • Fantastic game. In driving games I usually avoid manual transmission but this was the only driving game where I made the effort to master the 7 gear transmission. This game rewards effort. Its also one of the first driving games where you could slipstream.

The background graphics especially are beautiful; that scenery is beautifully drawn and amazingly detailed. Very atmospheric (the wind sounds really added to it IMHO).

  • The Genesis/megadrive voice synthesis is really, really bad. What kind of sound chip is this??? It sounds like something from a 1979 Atari.

Well maybe not that bad, but it's not Amiga Paula chip.

  • I still have this game for the Genesis and I play it every now and then. Really fun.

  • hai la canzone intera di questo videogioco

    ?

  • i luv this game. many the hours of hapiness i had playing that!!!

  • I love this game but this guy is a pain in the ass. He just can't stop talking! wathahell...

  • the framerate is very nice, unlike some other racing games at the time...

too bad Road Rash didn't have this smooth of a framerate....

  • This game was also in the arcades. Both versions are amazing.

  • Amazing review

  • its still the best driving arcade game up to today!

  • awesome game, even to this day. hope they'll do a remake on 360 or ps3 and keep the identity and feel of the game intact.

  • I'm absolutely serioud when I say this... This is probably my favourite racing game ever. I played this game nearly every day when I was a kid between the ages of 5 and 9. I haven't played it since 1997 :( But there is a new Sega Mega Drive console being made by a company called Blade and it is being released over here in the UK on April 24th :) It's got 15 games built into it and you can play ANY cartridge port in it too, Japanese, European, American... So I am going to buy Super Monaco GP :D

  • Hey!

That's awesome news. Can you PM me a link to an article / shop for this?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

  • I like when you hit the Flag man at the Finish, he goes flying into the sky! LOL!

  • I love this game.

I worked in a remake for f1challenge, a mod of this game.

And I have to say, tahts it´s very good to remember my good old times.

  • lol "youre so bad were fucked anyway"!!!

lol amazing game, i loved it. all the tracks are based on real tracks and so are the teams and drivers. for example, the Blanche team is meant to be Brabham and their frent driver J.Herbin is meant to be Jean Alesi

  • Cool Review man...but you suck at the game...keep practicing.

  • He admits that he lost his skill after years without touching the game.

  • I realy loved this game but the Ayrton Senna version is the best (SM GP2)

  • This game came bundled with my Mega drive system for which I saved money soo hard. It was really a great game.

The next game I got was Quackshot in summer of 92 for my 11th birthday a few months later..

This video has been a true nostalgia trip to others too according to commenting. :)

  • Great game, me and my bro were so amazed by the heat wave effects at the end.

  • The best part of this game comes when you've won the championship for the first time and are pit against Ceara (Senna) who joins Bullets (Arrows) and for two races is very tough to beat. If you can beat both of those in one sitting, you've mastered the game and get stay on team Madonna (McLaren).

    Retro classic.

  • This game has incredible graphics. The tracks are actual 3D? And the tunnel... wow. Amazing.

  • I remenber looking at this game and think "wow!! what graphics! I what to play this one". (I had the master system game back then). It´s funny how time marches on:)

  • Yes, class comments! haha

    great review, nice job!

  • anytime i listen to "Gypsy Woman" by Crystal Waters, the melody of it reminds me of this game for some reason, This game along with Out Run(Sega) and Victory Run-(NEC's Turbo Grafx-16) got me hooked on racing games to this day.

  • I got that game along with the console and "Zoom" in 1992 :) Those were the days.

  • Make a review or at least check out the Formula 1 by Domark for the Sega Genesis, i liked that game a lot, thanks. great show btw.

  • OMFG Thank you for bringing the memories back! I had completely forgotten this game, I spent months on it as a child... It's good to see it again...

  • Best opening title screen on a game ever!!! Legendary game.

  • Now it's up to YOU!

  • Indeed:)

  • LOL our original driver OD'd on heroine in a nightclub

  • COOL

  • super monaco gp is one of the best if not best racing game that was on the genesis back in the day.

  • i remember being jealous that my friend had this game and i didn't. i agree, best start screen of all time.

  • Great game :P I used to play it with my uncle.

Damn! Why now, games don't have this unique something.....
