I like to think of "vous" as the american english equivalent of "y'all" when used in the plural, and the formal use as when you address an elder or an aquaintence (out of respect). :)

@Nour12327 THe only difference is tu as refers to one person that could be your friend and vous avez could mean one person too,but certainly somebody you dont know well and also a group of persons.

@Nour12327 "Tu" is the singular and informal translation for the English word "you" and "vous" is the plural and formal translation of the word "you".
In French there are these two words which both mean "you" and therefore the verbs have to be conjugated accordingly.
("Tu" is equivalent to the now obsolete word "thou" in English, which was an informal way of expressing you).
