Good Stuff! It's nice that what came before rock 'n' roll is just as awesome, in it's own way! The static and sound of the singers reminds me of listening to oldies x-mas music a few years ago.
I was listening to this on my laptop and had a deep feeling that probably every one of these individuals who contributed to this beautiful music are no longer among us now.
What a wonderful legacy to leave with us.
Props to you steigmannkurt! I am very glad you were here to provide witness to those times past that tried men's souls.
At the end of WWII this kind of music also greatly contributed to create sympathy for USA military forces. There was no more this magic with the Iraq, Afghanistan campaigns etc. Did USA make some mistakes in approaching populations?
Hiding in Nazi-Austria,listening to forbidden BBC ( one could have be killed for doing so ! )-That was the sound - the song that opened the news - so I´ll never forget it.
My father, Rubin "Zeke" Zarchy played with, and was the Master Sargeant, in Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band. It is so heartwarming to read you letter, and I'm so glad to hear youre still around to listen to this wonderful music. Thank you so much for listening then, especially at such a risk!
All the best thoughts to you ...greatest music ever!
P.S. If you "google" my Dad, you're in for a treat - look up "Zeke Zarchy" and it will take you immediately to "the Zeke Zarchy Movie"
@steigmannkurt I'd just like to say how much I admire you for living through that awful time and place, and retaining your happy appreciation for fine things.
@steigmannkurt Are you from Austria? Were you living under Nazi rule? I'm teaching a course on the Holocaust. Would you be willing to speak with me? Also, have you seen the movie "Swing Kids." It deals with this very issue. It's outstanding...
i've been listening to this song since 1969(when i was 7)and i just figured out that line'just got word from the guy who heard...'about 2 years ago...listened to it on a 1954 lp 'sunrise serenade'...

This should've been in Bioshock, Could you see this playing in a jukebox in Arcadia?
I mean the song reminds of the Big Sister Little Sister and Big Daddy Relation Triangle.

Seems like only oldies have scratch static noise...without which it just isn't nostalgic enough. Got to have the scratch noise.
