Your site points to other blogs which take the speech apart and put a twist on it. I've read the exact speech forwards and back and can't seem to find the words "gay" or "homosexual" used at all. am I missing something here? Please clarify. Thanks

Isn't part of the problem that Hollywood and the music industry likes to create false images around gay stars, promoting them as romantic leads and sex symbols to the opposite sex. Gay honesty is a two way street. Gays need to resist being exploited in a way that directly contradicts their sexual orientation. If society no longer forces / encourages them to lie about their sexuality then what excuse do they have for cashing in on false images that really do hurt gay causes.

@sharrisec the problem is that in many countries Catholics have civil protections so that they cannot be discriminated against in employment, education, government services, union membership, etc. These laws were enacted to ensure equal treatment under the law. Now the Catholics oppose the extension of such laws to gay people which shows that Catholics are inherently opposed to the concept of equal treatment under the law.

I personally am not against such laws. and I am definitely not a hateful person. I'm no expert, but I thought most states already had laws (EEO) to protect people regardless of their sexual orientation etc.. I'm all for rights to all people in that regard. I agree some Catholics misrepresent the position of the Church and maybe this is where Mr. Signorile got his information.

The "gay lifestyle"...what??? I hate that word. I am gay..PERIOD!! My partner and I have been together monogamously for nearly 20 years. Is that considered the "gay lifestyle?" I watch my straight friends bounce from marriage to marriage to marriage and here we are. We cannot get married because the Catholic church and others donate tons of money so we can't...

I am a "recovering" Catholic here. What they did in Maine to this day is so nauseating. They donated over $150,000 to defeat gay marriage there. The church is getting involved in politics which they should not be doing as a tax exempt status. Catholic churches are closing all over the place and yet they "find" money to oppose gay marriage?PLEASE! The church can get into politics.. there is nothing wrong with it. Many catholic priests have given up their tax exempt status so that they dont have to preach the lies mandated by powerful liberals...The truth must be given out no matter what the cost.
