@avolikk Good question. Many purists will recommend synthetic. I used to use only that, but now that my car is worth just a few thousand--i use cheaper stuff. I generally only use Castrol GTX. I'll make the bold statement that i'm not sure there's really a difference. I suggest doing some more research.
Good job mate. However, you did neglect to mention the inclusion of the aluminium crush washer on the sump plug. This is required to prevent leakage from the sump plug. If you buy your oil filter from a Volvo parts department, they will include a washer for an extra $1. I previously bought my oil filters from Canadian Tire and they didn't include the washer, and I'd wonder why my oil would leak. And as a bonus the price is right too:
The stone guard is 3-5 pounds, it's not real heavy, but a bit bulky. i comes off easy, but getting it back on is a bit of a pain--you have to crawl underneath the car, position the guard to align the bolts, and---bolt it back on.
Great video.....really useful! !! Thanks

I hearr ya jjulier1 and tahanana21,
When this car was worth 40K it got synthetic, not that it's worth a few thousand, it gets what it get's
timetotravel 1 year ago
you need a new drain plug seal too
pashkin567 1 year ago
What is the torque setting for the crush washer? On a $40,000 car I cannot see using anything but synthetic. Otherwise, well done.
jjulier1 1 year ago
Volvos require synthetic oil , its very foolish of you to use cheapest version of castrol.
Tahababa21 1 year ago
@Tahababa21 All Volvo dealerships use Castrol GTX, which isn't a synthetic oil.
