The show was a little below average to me. A real HBCU would have turned it out. I think the crowd liked it because they do not see too many HBCU's. Back in my day Howard band was THE REAL showtime band. They had more intensity marching, dance girls were awesome, dance routines were off the chain and they were KNOWN tight gimmicks in their shows. This show was very flat...compared to what I'm use to seeing. It wasnt bad but nothing to write home about...not hating just being respectfully honest.
I meant a REAL HBCU BAND (meaning a really good black band that can really put on a show) lol dont get your draus in a bundle now ;) I respect and applaud ALL HBCU's for their efforts in education OUR people....I was speaking of bands though...Howard is good but i've seen them better...was basically the point I was trying to make :)
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the gentleman in charge--on their bus--I told him and I am telling all of you--I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the show. The talent, the precision, the personal pride that the members exhibited was outstanding and memorable. That band brought some brightness to s dreary game day sky. As a long time drummer, I was thoroughly impressed by the band. Thanks for a great opportunity. Hope to see you again. All of us at R U Fire Dept.
No one questione their song selection. I appreciate the comments, but everyone is missing the point. People paid money to see this band, stayed through pooring rain, and I think HUSMB has sounded better in other performances. I was not speaking poorly of them. I was in bands in high school, college, and drum corps. I know a good band when I see one. I just feel their performance was not as good as last year. It was still a great show, just not as good as last years.
but aside from that, Howard did a good job, with good song selection... also, keep in mind in Rutger's defense, a band is a means of entertainment first and foremost, THEN we're competitors. They just wanted to put on a show just like Howard wanted to...
Being a past drum major from the 08-09 season, I personally think that HUSMB sounds SUPERB in their song selection. Granted, they sound could be fuller because of their instrumentation, but I wouldn't consider their performance sub par... as far as trying to be loud, we may be a show-style band, but we are still musicians. Under strict direction from all of our directors, we are taught, trained and conditioned to perform at our optimal musical capacity without sacrificing sound or musicality.
whatever... howard was killin tht shit.. just ya'll were sorry don't mean nothin. Rutger's thought they was cool cuz they playin michael jackson. Hell No!!! tht shit was weak. if you gon do a real michael tribute play some shit tht we don't hear all the time. Howard was killin, Rutger's was hatin
Thanks for the comment, but compared to last year, Howard's performance was sluggish. I didn;t even try to defend the Rutgers band, they have never been above mediocre. People stayed in awful conditions to see the Howard band and I feel like they mailed it in. They were just trying to be loud. Musically, they were subpar to their high standard. It was still the best band we will see @ Rutgers all year. Thanks again for the comment.
those white people didn't care at all lol!!!!!
