I have lived 22 years in the US and 19 years in the UK plus I was born in the States and both my parents are English. Only the best of either country is worth watching. In America that has been Mash/Cheers/Frasier and in the UK that is QI/ Monty Python movies/Black Books. America has had some great writing teams and still create some fantastic animated movies, while the British are the best at going on a tangent and surreal/abstract humour.

I have seen a fair share of stand ups, both UK and US, and while they have different qualities specific to the popular culture of the region, if the comedian is good, neither one is better or worse. Also, you sound like you are creating stereotypes about America. Just like every other country, we are smart too. Have you ever heard of Bill Cosby? What about George Carlin? Both of them were brilliant comedians.

Britain is great at situation & group comedy and yes there are many good British stand-ups, but I stand by my opinion that since the 1960s the Americans have had the funniest stand-ups. Now run along spud and try not to get your knickers in a twist over nothing.

@DipDop99 All that says is you watch British Television, not American television, and therefore are not as familiar with American entertainers. I haven't seen seen many British comedians, but it doesn't mean that there aren't any. It just means that we live in different countries dear, and are familiar with different performers.
