This is not how to fix error 80010514. It is simply that the blu ray is not reading the disc. I tried everything anyone has come up. It is NOT corrupted (and resets don't fix firmware fuckups anyway.) My ps3 would not work at all anymore, cd, dvd, games, nada. I took it apart and cleaned the laser lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol and now it works perfectly. I have not gotten the error at all since. YOUR LENS IS DIRTY. It's that simple.

@GanjaStevo420 Not the problem in all cases, sometimes this works perfectly. I tried your tip first but the lens(es) weren't dirty at all, then tried this an worked perfectly.

@Maartenn2930 I tried the reset and my ps3 worked for 6 hours and started up with that error again. I had already opened my ps3 and the lens looked clean so I didn't bother with the alcohol the first time. When the error came back and wouldn't go away I took the ps3 apart again and cleaned the lens. I still have not had the error since I posted that first comment a week ago. If you get the error after trying the reset you know it's not a software issue.

@yoooooooooo97 No problem. I will make a vid to show you guys how to take a part the newer PS3 and clean the laser. It isn't easy to get into it.You have to have a star bit screwdriver with a hole to get the 4 front screws out. The bluray is NOT removable in the more recent PS3 model. To get to the laser get the top cover off the PS3, take the top off the blu ray player (3 small screws), remove the disc track (2 screws). You will see the 2 lasers after you lift that off. Qtip and rubbing alcohol

By the way the hard drive cant cause this error only the cd and the blu ray lens can sause it cause the lens will be damaged if you put a dirty cd or the dust will damage it if you don't clean your console every week, and if you are a smoker ( like me) it will be damaged very fast

This error can be fixed in three ways : 1- clean your cd. 2- clean your blu ray lens by opening the ps3 cover. 3- changing the blu ray lens ( this step is the finale solution ).

@BBallUnleashed786 Like it said in his video, if the error still shows up after having done this, something may be physically wrong with your PS3 disc drive, you might want to send it back to Sony if you're in still in the warrantee period.

you forgot to mention the fact that when you do this, it resets your visual output to the non HDMI port. This leaves people liek myself that only have an HDMI connection screwed, as we cant see the TV to go through the menu.

i appreciate the advice as it said i had corrupted data and fixed this but still did not resolve the issue. I have also tried a ps3 lens cleaner which didnt work. what does normally work is if i try starting the disc while holding my ps3 in odd angles and sometimes applying light 'love' taps......sounds crazy but it works for me.

you are the bomb man, as soon as it popped up, it said that there were corrupt files, i restored it and restarted the system. I popped in the same bluray that i tried earlier with no avail, it worked, then i tried bf3 it kicked on and we're off to the races. you're awesome man, and I hope everybody that has this problem finds this and saves their money. you're a pimp.

I bought the in-store warranty from best buy w my ps3,in the first year of it I have went through 4 ps3's,all w same issue,and an additional 1 since,was convinced was going to have to send off again,until this fixed it. I hadnt used my ps3 in about 2 months and i start it up and do the update. Ever since the update was installed there was a problem with sound. Everytime a game was loaded the sound would just be a loud crackle. The game would work just with no sound. A bit of a pain but managable. All of a sudden the game froze so i restarted the ps3 and when i restarted the game i was presented with this error code in question. I used your video to fix it where the sound and game now works i am highly grateful.

I have another question too in case anyone here would probably know as well. If your PS3 console is still not playing PS3 game discs correctly as well as Blu-ray discs, would a Blu-ray lens cleaner help the situation? I'm just wondering. I was thinking of getting a Blu-ray lens cleaner disc or something for my PS3 console in order to clean the lens. Then that way, maybe my PS3 game discs would start playing again. I'm just saying though.

Man I've been through the same issue too and so far my PS3 game discs still don't work yet on my old PS3. I have the old 80 GB PS3 and it can play PS1 and PS2 games just fine as well as other discs too including DVD movies. However, when I go to insert a PS3 game in though, I've been having the same error code coming up on me which stinks. No matter what PS3 game I try, whether it's MGS4, RE5, GTA IV, RB2, anything, it still won't start correctly on my PS3 system and I'm frustrated about it too.

This is very handy knowledge and it's good to routinely clean your system of bad files. Unfortunately, if your BluRay is bad, it won't work on this, but it is always good to give it a try anyway, as there might be another issue. Good luck to those getting this code, as it may very well signal a bad BR drive!

i just got this stupid error code and i called sony and they had me do what you said to do and it worked once and never worked again,so then they had me format my hard drive and it worked once and then went back to giving me that error code again,its not my game its brand new and do even have a finger print on it and all my other games work and i have like 20 new and old ones and it plays blu rays perfect

To all people who get the error again it is because of the game your trying to play. My Red Dead Redemption game for example is pretty much the cause of the error. Whenever I put it in it will start up until after the Rockstar logos and go black. Then I would have to do the whole thing again. So pretty much, FUCK RDR.

i have a new 125GB slim. i'm obviously experiencing the same problems, but ONLY with Portal 2 and LA Noire, which I picked up just today.

Portal 2 I would just try repeatedly and eventually it would work.

LA Noire just won't work. ALL my other games, including Mortal Kombat (newer game) and all blu-rays, all dvds work.
