You can't blame just the DC-10 or just the Concorde - it was a series of mistakes, maintenance errors and vulnerable design which brought down the plane. Having to improve the design of Concorde so much was sort of the last straw; it was no longer profitable to fly. Please everyone stop blaming just Continental, it was a lot their fault, yes, but also, the runway should have been inspected after the DC-10 took off; plus, Concorde had had a history of tire blowouts.

Just another snag for the DC-10, a poorly designed plane which killed a company. Don't blame the Concorde on this one. Although it could be improved, there was nothing it's design which led to a crash. The DC-10 is notorious for it's design flaws.

The DC-10 has had multiple fatal accidents over the years, most notably Turkish Airlines Flight 981, American Airlines Flight 191, & United Airlines Flight 232. There were survivors on United Flight 232, but Turkish Flight 981 & American Flight 191 both crashed with huge number of fatalities & no survivors. And now, the DC-10 contributes to the deaths of 113 more people - & the fate of the great Concorde. Now THAT'S a tragedy.

Leave it to the frogs to attribute everything to one metal strip. S*** falls off planes all the time, that is why the runways are swept. Concorde is the only plane to have a tire blow on take-off from running over debris.

Then staying with in range of the airport to line up an approach. They were to low to turn back. I read the blackbox recording. A lot more went wrong than we think and there options were a long shot. Like miscommunication. (*) - black box couldnt under stand what they were saying. So there is no doubt that there was some panic and miscommunication.

Sadly nothing they could of done accurately except kept the run ways clean and tires beefy. Not a great place to put a fuel tank. What the pilot should of done is focused on the throttle and altitude. Once that fuel ignited there was no way to put it out in the air and stopping the aircraft on a runway would be a risk with it burning. There best option was to gain as much altitude as they can keeping the flames behind them and shutting down engine 2 hoping to sufficate or run the fuel dry.

@ksull72487 shutting down number two was the reason they all perished , the pilots error, he should have powered them up and gone around, and landed successfully, with the plane being overloaded, he didnt have enough power to stay aloft, with number two powered down, they could have all been saved with the right pilot

The strip from the DC10 was 1.7Km down the runway. Concordes do not take 1.7 KM to take off. Poor Maintenance with a plane dragging to the left heading for a 747 on a taxiway - takeoff was 11 knots under rotate speed but essential to miss the 747. The fire alough impressive to the uninitiated only caused engine surging, the pilots (s) second mistake shutting down No.2 engine which if kept running with tank five burning out immensly increased the odds of returning home one tyre down and red faces

DC-10's and the Tristar L-1011's had some serious issues but the real problem with those disasters were lazy Maintenance workers and company greed.  Just my opinion.

MMMMM , Continetal Vs Air France . Both have shocking safety records with many many aircraft crashed . Dont fly with either airline if you can . I would go with Continental in preferance to Air Frog .
