The euro E36 M3 puts out around 290ps (1995 and below, 3.0L, 5speed gearbox) or 330ps(1996 and above, 3.2L 6speed gearbox).

Those figures put it close to the E39M5 in terms of power to weight ratio, so that would explain why it looks so fast...

Although I am a huge BMW fan, I must say that something is wrong here... it can´t be THIS fast... look at the acceleration... either the car has been modified heavily or it´s a downhill run. M3 (including E36) is a very powerful and great car, but this is just as fast as some powerful Ferraris or something.

@Clemenzaa, agreed. No M3 I've ever seen has mid-range like this. This is bonafide supercar stuff. I've seen standard E39 M5's with mid-range like this but not E36/E46 M3's.

Saying that though, I can't hear any forced induction so it's either down hill or N/A tuned with some serious weight reduction! Who knows.

I have my doubts about this vid. This car shouldn't be that fast, especially the climb from 100-160kph. I drive a 3.0 M3 with around 270bhp/tonne and it's about as quick as the one in this vid. The 3.2 M3 had around 220bhp/tonne. Either this car isn't stock, or somebody has messed with the speed a bit.

Yes, you should rev match. If you just dump your clutch, the rpms will go up, but you will be jerked and be putting extra wear on your clutch. once you get good at rev matching, and you want to learn how to slow down more efficiently, learn the "Heal Toe" method, it's great for slowing down before turns and downhills.

Agree with your comment that the Heel and toe method is very effective but it is not reccomended for general road use.

I've written a few articles on advanced road driving and manual techniques in particular, all based on the IAM and the Roadcraft system. Rev matching is fine but a double de-clutch will give you a smoother, more precise and more controlled downshift and save wear and tear on your brakes and transmission.

VERY NICE VIDEO ! I am sure this M3 is whit 6 speed gear box because at V-Max the rpm was around 6000 with 5 speed box I think you dont have that. If you change the rear differential with one number up I think you will get faster acceleration and better top speed. Nookiee, on the normal e36 models, that is a MPG guage, but on the M3, it's an oil temperature guage. It's there to tell the idiot American drivers not to push it until it's reached operating temperature.

Un truc bizarre à 250km/H si vous regardez le compteur il prends 100m toute les trois secondes, je trouve cela long, pourtant la video à l'air plausible, il va falloir que je fasse le même pour vérifier(j'ai aussi une M3E36 en 3litres)
