only one minute of this video is from NY. The crowd is not just buddhists but NYers that got stuck (bottle necked) because streets were blocked off. I think it's pretty clear from the video what was happening..at least the one from July 17. A large group of Asian-looking people dressed in Tibetan clothing were being restrained by NY police to protect a much smaller group of people holding up signs reading "Dalai Lama, STOP LYING".
And there were two sides. The Dalai Lama sides accuses the other of being either an evil demonic cult or Communist spies. The other side accuses the Dalai Lama of religious persecution in the Tibetan exile community in India.

I was there that day to hear the dalai lama. I am not a buddist and was surprised at the protest. Dalai lama's followers were waving dollars when we asked why we were told that shugden received money from the chinese government.

The point about the New York footage is that it indicates how violent is the reaction from Dalai Lama supporters when he is criticised - even peacefully - in a democratic country with police protection.
Can you imagine in Indian Tibetan society what would happen to this group of demonstrators? My guess is they might possibly be beaten to death.

only one minute of this video is from NY. The crowd is not just buddhists but NYers that got stuck (bottle necked) because streets were blocked off. The police stopped the demonstration because people were not moving and it was the beginning of rush hour. With more people leaving work and traffic picking up fewer and fewer people were getting through. I did learn a new way of giving the finger.

I think it's pretty clear from the video what was happening..at least the one from July 17. A large group of Asian-looking people dressed in Tibetan clothing were being restrained by NY police to protect a much smaller group of people holding up signs reading "Dalai Lama, STOP LYING".

The Dalai Lama outlawed the worship of this deity because he wants to merge four rival schools/sects of Tibetan buddhism, all under his own leadership. Traditionally, the Dalai Lamas only controlled the Gelug sect, but the current Dalai Lama wants control all of Tibet.
