it seems to be a concensus among the guys I hang out with that the worse you treat her, the better the results. maybe I should turn heel. Nice guys finish last.
Lesley Gore, my first crush as a little boy watching her perform at, I guess it was, Palisades Amusement Park. Hey, I didn't know...and neither did anyone else, for she couldn't exactly tell people in 1964 and still have a career. I trust she has found happiness in her life not having to put on an act any more.
Snookie - I also have to add my congrats on your work in getting a lot of music up on this site ... I saw Leslie in concert a few years ago and had just a rekindling of her great sound ... then I found your Youtube postings ... so great to carry on Leslie's work ... thanks ! ps - she should be in R&R hall of fame along with my other favorite - the late and great Johnny Maestro ...
Sorry, I can't tell you how awesome you are, Miss Gore. I will mental telepathy my regards. That's the way boys are. overprotective. on the other hand, i am alive and well.
I met Lesley several years ago....she's real sweetheart. Her old shows were great, very energetic. Her songs will last as long as people experience / worship / treasure things like youth, first loves, breakups, heartaches..
The 1964 original is my favourite Lesley Gore song. I usually dislike remakes like this intensely, but it's actually not half bad, although it can't measure up to the first one. I didn't even know it existed. Thanks for posting!
I have never listened to the original version but I must say this is my favorite Lesley Gore song. A classic that will forever live on just like Lesley and her music!!
This is my favorite Lesley Gore song and always has been. I don't know why she ever felt the need to re-record it...the original version is PERFECT and this one just doesn't have "it" . I also think they dropped the key to accommodate her older voice.
Some people mentioned not being able to find the original of this song on youtube. I have it on my hard drive (audio/stereo only, no video) and I'd be glad to email it to you if you wish. You may already have it but I'm just assuming you don't because you've not made a video yet. I also have the originals of --> California Nights, You Don't Own Me, Look of Love-slow version, Look of Love-fast version, She's a Fool, Maybe I know.
Thanks, the problem with not having some of her songs up on youtube consists of copyright problems with companies that produce her songs. Recently, I guess some of them are squeaking by and I plan to squeak some more..thanks for your compliment.
That's the way "traditional boys" are Lesley....things have changed a bit since this song came out...although we're sorry for looking at that beautiful girl it's in our makeup as they say: Some thgings never change. :)
It surprised me when I read that she hasn't ...yet...been a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I honestly thought she was...it is well, a 'no brainer'! Maybe her fans need to write/call the 'Hall of Fame' and ask WHY NOT? Of all of those already there, she should have been right at the top! I think I now have a project to start on......Will let you know what does/doesn't happen. Thanks, Snookiebutt...Looking forward to coming back later on this weekend to get my 'Lesley Gore Fix'. :)
I wanted to take a moment to Thank You for this wonderful music library of Ms. Gore's. I am 56 and have to admit, when I think of 60's music, she is the ONLY female singer I favor. There were others, but, sad to say, their names escape me. Ms. Gore has managed to bridge the gap of styles with her music and we are very lucky she has been able to do that. I have friends in NYC and have HOPE of one day being able to see Ms. Gore in concert there when I have a chance to visit. Thank You again.
You are so very welcome. Lesley played a big part in my life growing up and to this day, she is still number one. What I don't understand is why she was never nominated to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Anyway, thanks again.
I think I must have lost my voice a million times singing along with this song, back in the 60's and even today, lol. I just love this song, and only by Leslie.
the original is still tops. but Nice to know she like it enough to re record it. its fresh to hear the Original singer change it up a little..certain notes on original are held out Longer on the remake and i love it. note how she drags out dooorr and thats the way boys areeeee oh I love of himmmmm..as the song ends
she ad libs and holds morrrrre arrrrrrrrrre thats the way boys arrrrrrrrrrrre.
oh i loveee of himmmm Sing Lesley!. LoL..thanx for turnin me on to the remake of my fav by her.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Leslie re-recorded this song. The original production was simply brilliant!

I like this version, but I like the original version better. Do you have that one, by any chance? It's not on YouTube yet.

snookie: I think you are too hard on yourself. This is exactly how I remember the song when I heard it on the radio back in '64

I miss hearing Ellie Greenwich's background vocals on this song. It's what made the original production so poignant.

I'm going to march on Washington and bring government to a halt until Leslie gets elected to the Hall Of Fame! It's way past due!
That said, i prefer her original version of this song, but hey, this one's good too.

My wife absolutely hates this song, because the lyrics imply that the chicks are supposed to accept boys as being that way. But the song is cute.
