I just bought a space suit and I'm equipping my KLR with oxygen tanks and booster rockets. I'm planning a moon trip sometime in 2012. All the easy adventure tours already been accomplished on the KLR, more than any other motorcycle.
Awesome video. U got ballz jumping that monster around. What part off the world are you in (state??)? I ride an old 1998 KiLleR and can't kill it! Post an updated video if you are still alive;)
I had a 03 klr650 and it was a good all around bike but it lacked a little in the offroad dept. I just bought a 1998 xr650l and it dominates hands down. Offroad and on it feels like more pwer and response. Feels like a real bike inthe dirt. I will never knock the klr. Its a good reliable bike. But I also could never go back from the xr. Nice vid.
I think this is one of the best music-to-video matches I've come across. Seether for the win and rockin' video man! At one point, where you video'ed that steep incline, I thought, NO WAY THEY'RE GONNA TRY THAT!!! I'm glad you didn't. lol... Keep up the good work.

This looks like my area last Autumn! Let's ride! And to all you nay sayers....I gotta 1985 KLR 600 in near mint shape that will do all that under the right pilot. It is a big bore, lean, mean woods-eating machine! I just gotta paint it every week to keep Johnny law cunfused!
If you are doing this with a KLR650 very impressive. It is just a dual purpose bike not a full blown enduro bike...You must have changed the stock sprockets, and got the motor up on the power curve to do what you are doing. Great riding for this type of bike...If you had a full blown enduro you really could go over anyting...
great riding!!! I'm surprised at what the KLR can do and what you can do as a rider. The KLR isn't terrible at all....try any of that stuff with a 1200gs or any other big touring bike.
The KLR 650 is an adventure touring bike. You want a trail bike then get one, but quit you're whining about how you can't ride it. Its like trying to use a screw driver as a hammer. That won't work well.
Oh, there are some people who CAN ride it in similar situations.
Makes me want to cry, I bought a KLX 650 in i think July and a few weeks before i went to school at Michigan Tech which right near has hundreds of miles of two tracks, the tranny got messed up. It is fixed now, but its hard to ride in the snow with it.
@pyrodog783 Motorcycles in the snow/ice is very dangerous. It doesnt help that the bike is very top heavy and has a lot power. If you went to turn and hit some ice, your front tire would slip out from under u and your face will be on the pavement.
BTW - some of the stuff you're doing with that KLR in this video just isn't what the poor bike was designed for. The kind of bikes you use for 45 degree inclines need trailers to get them to the dirt, because they aren't road legal. The KLR-650 was designed for people who want to ride from Salt Lake City up to Barrow, AK and back, or from Phoenix down to Rio de Janiero on primitive or nonexistent South American "roads."
I've got 6500 miles on my 2008 KLR-650 (1st year for the updated one) and I've had it on a lot of different offroad surfaces. I think the word "terrible" is a bit of an overstatement. It isn't the first bike I'd pick for deep loam or mud, but it IS the first bike I'd pick to ride 100 miles of freeway to 20 miles of dirt and gravel road to get to a hunting camp - something I've done on it many times. Don't think of it as a "dirt" bike. Think of it as a two-wheeled Jeep Rubicon.
Nice video! Shows what a little thought put into the editing can do. Suddenly you have videography rather than another crappy recording.
I think that's the first time I've bothered to comment on anything on here, over however many years YouTube has been around, too. Goes to say something, doesn't it?
Oh, and owner of an -89 KLR since two days... what have I gotten myself into? :D
I had a 2001 KLR and I didn't ride it hard off road, but it was great for riding it 100 hwy miles to forest trails, messing around and riding back home. They're heavy bikes and suck in soft sand, but for leisure off roading they're fun. I sold it in 2004 and really regret it.
nice video if you cut the first 1 and a half min of it but you are a very good rider that looks like it takes alot of skill. like that fallen tree you went over that was skill.
i own a 2008 KLR650. u definatly need to change the stock tires for off road. the stock tires will get you in alot of trouble if your not on hard pack. i ride mine on-off road and have 70/30 knobbys. these guys look like the lowered the suspension. i'm 6ft tall and stock height IS high. it's a heavy bike(390 lbs.) for off road compared to a true dirt bike(KLX 450R278lbs). you best be experienced with off road biking to handle this bike. i love it myself. on road it handles well.
as an owner of a klr 650 and an experienced rider i find the KLR great at what it's designed to do. It is not too heavy and has good power transfer through all gears,i will however be getting more aggressive tread than the stock tires, i have ridden the drz and its a little better in the dirt but the KLR is the better long haul dualsport.
So much of the bikes off road ability is rider skill. I'm a noob, so I can do as much as you off road, but to a skilled rider, the KLR 650 is an able ride. Of course, its no match for a true dirt bike, but no dual sport ever is.
It's not really a Question of being too heavy for the dirt. This guy is throwing this thing around. It looks like its going anywhere he points it. This bike is not a dirt bike...its a dual sport! Dirtbikes may be able to out jump... streetbikes may be able to out accelerate. But none are gonna do a better job at both.
Hey KLRnut, I have decided that a KLR650 is what I want when I get the money, But your video makes me wonder, What modifications have you made to your KLR650? and what year is it?
Alot of mods on my 99KLR. In the video it has aluminum rad guards, aluminum skid plate, aluminum bars, bark busters, and a fork brace. Really thats the most important mods right off the bat, of course with any bike you would need this.
Got my bike fixed today had to reajust valves but I need to buy new top end but the shop said it will last rest of the season but def need fix it over winter
yea just got rid of my KDX 200 and wasn't thinking that KLR is about 150 punds bigger but now I'm just going do enduro races and trail riding with family
LOL Just got a KLR 250 and took it on a motocross track second day I had it..Advice to all DO NOT DO THAT Klr250 not ment to jump 70 foot step up Din't go down but did braek my leg..And Yes I did clear the jump wish I had it on camra freinds said it looked awsome..I'm planning on puting the 280 bigbore kit on it and using it in the cross country races here in North Dakota
really, before passing any judgement, you should start with a rear knobby that has some tread left! That video is far more hard core than what the KLR is desgned for!
Was seriously every one of those bike that any "stunt may have been performed on a KLR 650? Most specifically the one in the very first clip with the rather large jump?
I question the judgement of anyone that would buy a KLR and expect it to go places like this. It is a bike with a very specific purpose. As for you KLR haters, meet me on a winding dirt road and you will see nothing but my taillight. This is not a trail bike, it is a dulal sport!
exactly..lol street and trail mena street and some dirt road and maybe some minor bumps, that bike is perfect for the traveller who wants to see it all and get off the beaten path..of couse its shitty off road its 450 lbs and top heavy
the KLR 650 does not perform great in sand its not great on the highway it does neither perfect but it does both well its a enduro multi purpose , you cant take a yamaha 250 on a round the world trip like the 650 Kaw. and your not going to win any off road races with the 650 its a dual purpose all around power house for a dirt cheap price . The new 09 has all the changes we have been looking for but the 08 retains the macho off road look with out the euro updates
The KLR can handle 2 people easy, its not all that comfortable but what do you expect. Just keep your balls off the gas tank the vibration from the big single makes them hurt after a while hehe.
If you want a KTM or something similar for 10/10ths offroading, then why do you have a KLR? And why say it's 'terrible' offroad? I own a KLR and it is not only excellent offroad, I'd say it is among the best in the world at most things, like going RTW distances with the greatest liklihood of returning in one piece.
I am confident I would ride rings around the dorks in this vid.
What the F? False advertising. Seems to have made it over that fat ass log and up the hill pretty well. What do you expect? You shouldn't compare it with a 2-stroke CR250 folks.

hey...my dad n i are about to get in2 this kinda stuff..but im only 15 and dont kno wer to start...from what ive seen online and at stores this looks lik an ok bike to start with...i will also b usin it for commuting...i think i need this bike due to its size....i am 6ft 8in. weighing 280...any tips?
i bought a klr 650 08 a month ago, there is my opinion about this bike: need a way more agressive tires, need a real skid plate ( i already broke the engine base) and some better foot peg. Ohter than that, its a really good bike for the price!!!
i have a Africa Twin but i'm not trying to do with it anything like this .....it's just too heavy.......just like the klr that's why i told you to get a KTM 450 . nice ride anyway
Rock on man! I have had my xl600 4 feet off the ground. I blew the front shocks but hey thats why we buy em, to use em. I can also end my ride at the store and buy a coffee. All hail the dual sport!
inagod has made a comment on KLR 650 is terrible off road!!!!!!!!! 8):
first if you want offroad get a dirt bike ,this bike is dual sport, light off road and highway, long trips 6 gallons of gas[gas is heavy] it doesn't have a high ground clearence.Get a dirt bike
You can reply to this comment by visiting the comments page.
I have a 07 CBR600RR, but the draw of Adventure riding continues to pull me to the dark side. Im loking at the KLR or possibly a XR650R. KLR seems the best of both worlds.
Sweet I'm looking to getting one of thoes I do alot of dirt trails and now that I'm old enough to get my license I want to get into street and I drove one of those and I was wondering if its any good cuz I only took it for about two miles not enough to get a grip on the pros and cons of it
I've done that half way up a hill and OMG how do I get back down stuff many times on the 04 KLR650. Especially with the old 1987 KLR 250. Just think of it as character building.
i owned a klr 650 and now have an XR650L. the XR is great on trails, the high ground clearance is a really good feature, i should get a skid plate though. the klr is much more comfortable on the highway though. still both great bikes.
I love to see the KLR get thrown around like that. Nice job on the video. Did you put another type of skid plate on to protect the engine from jumping the Logs and trees?
Hi, have you ever drag raced the KLR against a ktm LC4, curious how big the gap would be? I'm thinking of upgrading from my road legal drz400e, cheers.
They are both large dualsports. The xt is going to feel less bulky because of the smaller tank. So off road it will fell better. It realy depends on you though. I personally like the large tank, and wouldn't give it up. The guy taking the pictures in the video has a KLR and he is just over 5 ft tall about 138lbs. And he rides the KLR great! But I would buy the bike that would fit your needs. And make sure you have a dealer close where you could get parts, if you needed them.
does anyone know...is this a good first bike? i just took the motorcycle rider program course in IL and that gets me my license when i take the card to the DMV. is this a good first bike?
First off this is in response to my last post, the song is "don't stay" NOT faint.
First bike?? Well that a tricky one, the KLR is a no frills do anything and everything adventure motorcycle. And its bulletproof. However its a large bike. If your not comfortable riding, you might start out with a 250cc dualsport bike. Once you get your motorcycle legs, trade it in on a KLR. The KLR is easy to ride, and the power is smooth, but its still intimidating to some.
thanks KLRnut ^_^ i know I'll tame the beast, i currently ride a 94' Kawasaki zx600 i make it beg for mercy, all 4 cylinders begging me to stop, lol,the speedo says it goes 170 mph, but i have only gotten it to go 120 mph i don't know why but it just doesn't go any faster ^_^ i also ride my cousins 06' gsx-r 1000, his manual say's 200+ mph but i've only done 150 mph on it, i believe the manual, as i'm not that crazy.....yet ^_^ he,he. i've read my zx600 weighs 3 pounds more than a 08 klr

Love the video and music. You guys are great riders.

I question the judgement of anyone that would buy a KLR and expect it to go places like this. It is a bike with a very specific purpose. As for you KLR haters, meet me on a winding dirt road and you will see nothing but my taillight. This is not a trail bike, it is a dulal sport!

Nice video KLRs kick ass i have a oldie but goodie 93 i wouldnt trade or sale it for the world. Great video so fuck all the haters

what happened to the log hopping part in the old version of this video?? that was probably the best part.
mdsuave13 2 years ago
I would say its holding up pretty darn well consideiring your using it in places most people would prefer a full blow trail bike.
gumimalac 2 years ago
exactly..lol street and trail mena street and some dirt road and maybe some minor bumps, that bike is perfect for the traveller who wants to see it all and get off the beaten path..of couse its shitty off road its 450 lbs and top heavy

My old 1984 Can-Am Sonic 560 walks all over any KLR Rotax vs Kawi . Rotax wins

All offroads are terrible off road with street tyres ;)
Pansarpalle 2 years ago
the KLR 650 does not perform great in sand its not great on the highway it does neither perfect but it does both well its a enduro multi purpose , you cant take a yamaha 250 on a round the world trip like the 650 Kaw. and your not going to win any off road races with the 650 its a dual purpose all around power house for a dirt cheap price . The new 09 has all the changes we have been looking for but the 08 retains the macho off road look with out the euro updates

are there any dual sports that can have two people riding?
habitat4life 2 years ago
Um, I know my KE100 can lol.
forrest225 2 years ago
The KLR can handle 2 people easy, its not all that comfortable but what do you expect. Just keep your balls off the gas tank the vibration from the big single makes them hurt after a while hehe.
masteropie006 2 years ago
If you want a KTM or something similar for 10/10ths offroading, then why do you have a KLR? And why say it's 'terrible' offroad? I own a KLR and it is not only excellent offroad, I'd say it is among the best in the world at most things, like going RTW distances with the greatest liklihood of returning in one piece.
I am confident I would ride rings around the dorks in this vid.
jmshaw357 2 years ago
Well the "terrible offroad" was in fun. Its meant to say that the KLR can go anywhere.
And to ride circles around these guys is pretty darn good. You must be a national or world champion?? 8)
KLRnut 2 years ago
What the F? False advertising. Seems to have made it over that fat ass log and up the hill pretty well. What do you expect? You shouldn't compare it with a 2-stroke CR250 folks.

i bought a klr 650 08 a month ago, there is my opinion about this bike: need a way more agressive tires, need a real skid plate ( i already broke the engine base) and some better foot peg. Ohter than that, its a really good bike for the price!!!
freebiker75 2 years ago
Yep, exactly, Buy some good knobbies, and pegs, plate, busters. And you basically got a do it all machine!!
KLRnut 2 years ago
Like to see you try that on an 08 klr....you guys and your klrs ;)
you going to be able to come ride Arkansas in November?

Duh, it's a dual sport - not the best on or off but it's cheap enough to abuse like a red headed...oh, someone already said that.
Chop the first minute of nothing from this vid and post more helmet cam stuff. Ride on and keep having fun either way!
jiggystardust 2 years ago
Heard that! Was one of my first video's.
I got one right down your alley, I just may post it!

I used to beat my KLR like a red headed stepchild and it was fine off road.

KTM 450 is a great fun bike. The adv bikes are the next level in offroad riding.
I can never go back now, I am hooked!!
Whatever you have, ride the wheels off of it!!!
KLRnut 2 years ago
i have a Africa Twin but i'm not trying to do with it anything like this .....it's just too heavy.......just like the klr that's why i told you to get a KTM 450 . nice ride anyway
maika0staretza 2 years ago
klr is not a terrible off road bike, u are just not good driving it :)
carlorgalli 2 years ago
It's an adventure touring bike dumbass. If you want a bike for climbing over large trees in thick woods, get a lightweight bike built for that.
PirateBooty68 2 years ago

Rock on man! I have had my xl600 4 feet off the ground. I blew the front shocks but hey thats why we buy em, to use em. I can also end my ride at the store and buy a coffee. All hail the dual sport!

Just think of it as character building.
shick71 3 years ago
I love my 08 klr, seems to me some people just cant ride, start with a smaller bike then work up to the real mens bike, you'll get it with practice.
rick31967 3 years ago 4
I have a KLR650 I got in 2002 with 20,000 miles on it now. It really sucks. It is too top heavy. I wish I never bought it. It gets me to work though.

Yes
videogoatbird 2 years ago
i owned a klr 650 and now have an XR650L. the XR is great on trails, the high ground clearance is a really good feature, i should get a skid plate though. the klr is much more comfortable on the highway though. still both great bikes.
Nitrodrums75 3 years ago
Yeah the KLR650 is not the greatest dirt bike, but its a decent compromise if you want a bike that is big enough to run on the interstates too.
Georgenfla 3 years ago 4
Great video!! I ride a '06 CBR600RR but I'll be buying a KLR for a trip on the Trans Labrador Highway! Streets are fine but dirt rules!!!!!
rideswift 3 years ago
I love to see the KLR get thrown around like that. Nice job on the video. Did you put another type of skid plate on to protect the engine from jumping the Logs and trees?
Adammaniaminded 3 years ago 4
Hi, have you ever drag raced the KLR against a ktm LC4, curious how big the gap would be? I'm thinking of upgrading from my road legal drz400e, cheers.
aleshamahon 3 years ago
Truthfully if there was a gap, it would be left by the better rider. We have a lc4 adventure in our group of riders.

I weight 143 pounds and I am 5.77ft height.
Its KLR650 for me or better should I get XT 600?
Kinzey91 3 years ago
They are both large dualsports. The xt is going to feel less bulky because of the smaller tank. So off road it will fell better. It realy depends on you though. I personally like the large tank, and wouldn't give it up. The guy taking the pictures in the video has a KLR and he is just over 5 ft tall about 138lbs. And he rides the KLR great! But I would buy the bike that would fit your needs. And make sure you have a dealer close where you could get parts, if you needed them.
KLRnut 3 years ago
rThe faggots shirt at the beggining was too big for him they are supposed to have a tight fit
sesarathor 3 years ago
You mean like a girls shirt, tight??
KLRnut 3 years ago
No... The guys shirt stretched below his but
sesarathor 3 years ago
Probably so guys won't look at his butt? LOL
In his defense, he is just over 5 ft tall.
But he is a very good rider on his KLR!
KLRnut 3 years ago
does anyone know...is this a good first bike? i just took the motorcycle rider program course in IL and that gets me my license when i take the card to the DMV. is this a good first bike?
Rammstein16 3 years ago
First off this is in response to my last post, the song is "don't stay" NOT faint.
First bike?? Well that a tricky one, the KLR is a no frills do anything and everything adventure motorcycle. And its bulletproof. However its a large bike. If your not comfortable riding, you might start out with a 250cc dualsport bike. Once you get your motorcycle legs, trade it in on a KLR. The KLR is easy to ride, and the power is smooth, but its still intimidating to some.
Good luck!!
KLRnut 3 years ago
thanks KLRnut ^_^ i know I'll tame the beast, i currently ride a 94' Kawasaki zx600 i make it beg for mercy, all 4 cylinders begging me to stop, lol,the speedo says it goes 170 mph, but i have only gotten it to go 120 mph i don't know why but it just doesn't go any faster ^_^ i also ride my cousins 06' gsx-r 1000, his manual say's 200+ mph but i've only done 150 mph on it, i believe the manual, as i'm not that crazy.....yet ^_^ he,he. i've read my zx600 weighs 3 pounds more than a 08 klr

Forgive me, KLRnut, I posted before I really got your title and that you weren't putting down the KLR's capabilities. I misunderstood.
I've logged lots of time on KLRs and R100GSes in Colorado and the SW.
I'm researching the new revision and upgrades to make it the best value adventure tourer.
Mad props to your skills. Very impressive. Watch out for the dogs, though. ;-)

Looking forward to getting some riding in, once i get off this ice sheet.

heh, you want to get to know a porky dual sport, try it on an airhead BMW R100GSPD.
KLRs are like taking the easy path compared to muscling a Beemer over stuff.
Looking to a 2008 KLR for South America in 2009.

I believe you! But I do like those porky old beemers. They are pretty neat bikes, If I had one, it would be in the video! LOL
