  • Just starting to wonder how many basses do you own, and how many of them are J's.

    :)

  • You are the groove master, my friend!

  • the diminished part reminds me of the Underworld theme in the original Legend of Zelda (faux-Bach prelude scary music). :)

  • You're my man anyday. I was thinking it will be nice to tell us ur students i'e where and when your techniques can come handy in future.

Like this video, how does it relate to C and where is it applicable?

    Stay blessed

    Ola

  • absolutely brilliant bass player.inspirational tuition!!

  • Hey Marlowe! Tak for alle dine videoer!

  • @MarloweDK Fedt! Du er ret vild til det med bas! Tak for motivationen og videoerne! :)

  • Fascinating how your right hand moves in conjunction with your notes back and forth. Closer to the bridge for low notes and away for the smaller strings. I do know why you do this. Yet another technique to master. Ugh.

  • @starfish66 Well, its not really anything im thinking of, and can be pretty random, so its not something you should need to "master";-)

  • @MarloweDK I do this to. It gives the higher notes on a thin string a warmer or fatter tone. Know what I mean?

  • @starfish66 I noticed this kind of behaviour by myself, too. And I found out why I do this: when playing close to the neck when playing the low notes, I experience more fret buzz than when playing close to the bridge. However, on the high notes, the sound becomes too thin when playing close to the bridge, and it's harder to reach the g/d-strings when resting my thumb on the bridge pickup (Peavey T-40). So it has multiple reasons: sound, playability and randomness, as MarloweDK says :P

  • Bwah ahahah!! This run makes me smile. Thanks Marlowe!

  • I really appreciate these types of videos! I have a lot of fun with them. I am getting better at the "16th galore in G" I love that one soo much! I just wish I had that Sweet Rickenbacker to get that beautiful sound!!!! :)

  • lol at the: bad hair day in the description

  • I like how your tuner shows the actual note you're playing. I find that to be helpful, actually.

  • ugh that diminished run is killing me!! why do you have to make my life so hard >:(

    (5 stars :D haha)

  • haha agree!!! its killing me too!! i saw the slow version and i thought "what?? how is this the slow version??" hahahathen i saw the lower version haha its way better, this is awesome btw

  • Thanks a bunch man. I was in a rut, but your stuff is reviving my interest in bass again.

  • Really good stuff as always. Thanks a lot for your clips, I'm a long time subscriber. Great sound, deep grooves. Very inspiring. Keep them coming :)

  • simply the best!! ;-)

  • I think I hear a little "Jaco" in there:)

  • Great playing.

  • i love how it looks like he's enjoying it...

  • Hey, do you know what it's called when you play e.g. C to C from 1 octave up and back to to lower C, and you play this in 8th notes?

  • you're absolutley great when did you start playing bass may i ask and for how long?

  • That's hot my friend!!! I wish I could play well enough to steal that one!! hahaha!

  • I love how the TC Electronic head in the background shows us the name of each note he plays... especially on the very slowed down version. That ought to help with transcription! :-)

Sounds great -- both the lick and the gear. 5/5

  • wow, man - you look a bit like Pygar - the angel in Barbarella...

  • Are you muting or plucking with your ring finger?? It certainly looks like you're doing something other than just plucking with your index and middle finger.

    Thanks.

  • its just muting unwanted string noise

  • I consistently like this bass better than all other basses you play ;)

  • I agree. I watched every video Marlowe has and even though there are plenty of great sounding instruments, I agree that this bass is truly something special. So fat, smooth but with that brilliant twang that some fenders have.

  • that's the magic of vintage fenders... no electronics could EVER emulate that healthy wood resonance and airy highs...

  • ЕХL!

  • and thats why you should buy a fender bass! great sound, and cool lick.

  • great lick! cheers!

  • Just fantastic stuff. Nice to some more fusion based material. Love the previous mixoldyian one as well. We don't want you going all Pattitucci or Berlin on us. But it is obvious you can play that stuff.

  • I love the red J bass, sooo groovy. This lick is sick as well.

  • that was a real noodle groove.

  • simply osom :D

  • Greece is waiting for you.... Cheers!!

  • Thanks again man, im coming:-)

  • Really appreciate the close up of your left hand. Can you re-record your "bluesy jazzy bass lick in A" with that close up as well? :-) I'm struggling to work through the fingerings. (I know, not gonna happen).

    Thanks so much for these!

  • You look a little bit like Rowan Atkinson... :D

    Anyways, great tutorial!

  • I like how the amp in the background gives us all the note names.

  • wooow thats nice, never noticed that before !

  • @wcr4 good lookin out lol

  • @wcr4 Damn... that is convenient.

  • @wcr4 oh yeah, it does, that's awesome.

  • Marlowe (L) we love you in Venezuela.

  • muchas gracias:-)

  • hablas español wow

excelente video me gusta la forma como tocas

  • solo un poco:-)

  • lookin creepy

  • Wait, what? A new video camera?

  • speed this up to 211 bpm and you have death metal :) Marlowe you are the greatest bass teacher on youtube, and one of the best I've ever heard

  • Except here you can actually distinguish the notes and don't have to deal with someone's bad Cookie Monster impression. ^_~

  • you're just mean haha just kidding. I have a deep appreciation for most styles of music so Its good hearing a run like this for a change :)

  • Great stuff as always, Marlowe. Thanks!

"On the tuner display of the RH450 amp you can see the note names - very convenient :-)"

Very convenient indeed. Didn't notice that on the first viewing :D

  • What a beautiful jazz bass sound !

  • look out for dream theater's "the dark eternal night", listen to the scale around 5:40... this lick reminds me a lot of it :o

  • You really have a fetish for jazz basses dont you :D?

    Great as always :)

  • Who doesn't have a fetish for Jazz Basses? That's what I'd like to know. XD

  • your knowledge of theory concepts is so helpful when describing these licks! great new camera too!

  • Yes!

  • Love your work, but i miss the beard

  • sounds a bit like technical death metal slowed down xP i really like it xD

  • You are a really good player. I respect Your skill a lot =)

  • Did you tune that hipshot to a low D or a B?Would recommend the last one because then you got a kind of 5 string bass!

  • you channal should be flagged

flagged as in "too good to be true!" :D

  • I am very flattered for the video and music really wonderful, worth many votes and shares. Good day and I hope that my video like you too. Many greetings from Julita 5*****
