I enjoyed this book very much. These short stories that seem possibly autobiographical and experienced on a road trip across America, there's a lot of similarity between it and Kerouac's On the Road. There's reality and fantasy mixed together, something that Sam Shepard is good at.
About a month ago i was wandering through an old country book shop and found a copy of 'cruising paradise'. I had never read a book from cover to finish, then read it again right after. He really evokes an image of how I imagine America. It's amazing listening to him read his own stories with his low gravel voice.
I have this book.. I came across it at the public library when I saw the cover of Sam in his twenties with a cowboy hat walking with a bottle of beer by a Ford Model T. I knew it had something for me if I read it. And it did.

@HumanBozoBoy he didn't want to be a movie star. Instead he's known as the greatest American playwright of his time. Has been? I think not. And it's a sad society when you think getting lots of PR is what makes someone important or special. Paris Hilton gets tons of PR.
Thank you for posting an excerpt from this incredible book. Shepard's magic realism always entertains.

Motel Chronicles was written between 1978 and 1984. Bin Laden? Unless there was a "Chronicles Part 2" this is not the Motel Chronicles I know.
