@JTeamjesters I think it was how everyone in the 90's thought of "advanced" (Imagine how people in the 50's would think that year 2000 would be all flying cars and outerspace living).

I think any Heist or Action film from that decade would sum up everything that's cool about the 90's. lasers, mobile devices, computers & hacking, hidden gadgets in electronic devices, music to go with the actions (see david arnold in James Bond films), etc.

Today is the future but It doesn't feel much special.

People were beginning to live the science fiction world they always dreamed of through computers, mobile phones etc. Not that they were invented before, but it was around then that it started becoming commercial. Plus it was the real modern decade. A time when technological advancements were part of fantasy rather than something normal (see most spy-fi and heist films from that decade) and the fantasies had a bit of realism to it.

It's not only the movies either. Music also were more daring with a twist of nostalgic futuristic feel to it (like this song for example).

These are just one of the reasons why the 90's for me were the coolest.
