Wow! I didn't realize that Desslok (Desslar) shot General Krypt (Hiss)! I had always wondered what happened to him. The censors sure did cut a lot of juicy stuff from '...'Yamato' to make 'Star Blazers.' We kids could have handled all the stuff they cut.
First: Deslar is clearly psychotic, with a highly skewed concept of reality at best, which somewhat explains how he can love Starsha so implicitly and be so cruel to the rest of the galaxy at the same time.
Second: how could he have overlooked that humongus cannon that could reduce his entire planet into rubble?
Third: using the humongus cannon with no eyegear. are the Starforce now blind?
Note to self: If you see a flying WW2 battleship flying towards you that is known to have a ginomous wave-motion gun in it and lots of oddly dressed guys with bellbottoms and 70's hair... probably you should 1. Make friends, 2. Leave, 3. prepare to meet your maker.
If i were that vice-president guy I would have assasinated Desslar, declared my self the new ruler, and led the final battle myself (from a sane mind)
It is as absurd as pointing nuclear warheads directly at the other half of your own country. But I am afraid human(oid) beings are like that. We Germans can relate to the allegory in this episode very well.
Desler was not mad. According to producer's novel, he was laughing because he thought, "Yamato, you thought you destroyed Gamilus and won the war. I don't care a bit about this dying planet. I'm happy it's wiped out clean now. You think you revenged successfully, you didn't! You're dead, and we won after all." Then Yamato appeared!! Desler's staunch determination to fight on reminds of Imperial Japan's military authority at the end of WW II. The decision was a tragedy for all sides.
Now this sounds very much out of character for Dessler! Remember how often he said he did everything for Gamilus - esp in Yamato 2 Ep24 and New Voyage.
Yeah, but that was what producer's novel said(though it's from my memory, I remember the content like yesterday). I think Dessler meant the people of Gamilus, or the Great Gamilus Empire that he did his best for. Remember he wanted to immigrate to Planet Earth?(What a joke, huh?) On the other hand, he won't allow cowardly exploitation of his home planet by another powerful foreign force, as in "Yamato New Journey'. People are complicated, indeed.
Nothing like a good original Space Battleship Yamato. Thanks for the upload. Also, you might want to change the title. This is Part 2, not part 1. Just some friendly advice. :)
Ha. It's fun to see that smug blue bastard finally snap.

Apparently Deslar hasn't realized that the Yamato has no defenses under the ship... I would have attack the Yamato from below....

Wave Motion Cannon count = 5. You'd think by now they'd remember their eye shielding.

Desslar's Notes to Himself:
1. Do not draw your enemy inside your homeworld.
2. However, if I do draw them to my homeworld, think of a plan to destroy them that also does not let them hide from my forces.
3. If the enemy is closing on my capitol, take the advice of my councilors and not have an all out attack in my city with missles.
4. Do not place missles directly above my cities.

they forgot to put on their goggles while the wavemotion gun was fired!

The metal shield was in place over the windows when they fired. I guess it was so brilliant that it leaked through them a bit.
