WTH. There are so many people in the Filipino Chinese community who are fluent on all Mandarin, Chinese and Filipino. A lot of Filipino Chinese are assertive, conversant and able to do his job. Pero puro padrino ang gusto ni Abnoy! KKK. Kaibigan, Kamaganak at Kumpare!
Now do all see why the Philippines is a pathetically sorry country. Its the peoples fault by electing people because of their name recognition and not their ability or smarts to get the country in the right directions. I don't have any sympathy for the country.
Just wondering if this guy was asked if he needs an interpreter so they can get coherent answers from him. He seemed to be not fluent in English nor Tagalog.
The whole exercise is an embarrassment to both parties in my opinion. Obviously this guy cannot establish his compentency. The brilliant senator already knew that - but to continue with definition of terms like a vocab. skill test in high school to further embarrass the guy is pointless. Also Webster is better than quoting Wiki.
maybe he should answer in mandarin so that the senator will not understand because di man gihjapon maintindihan ang sagot sa ingles o tagalog hahahaha. so maka-reason out siya na he cannot speak english hahahahah!
Whew! I salute Noynoy's policy of getting people to work for him. Get somebody who is dumber so Noynoy's the least dumb within his circle. True indeed, almost everyone in his cabinet is crap. So, the crosseyed still maintains the kingship among the blind :-)
@edcika however the government must not only choose individuals that have the characteristics that you've stated. These individuals must also be capable of representing the Filipinos abroad as that is the real essence of being an ambassador or being a member of the diplomatic corps. The ambassadors that will be sent abroad by the government are THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PHILIPPINES and ergo, they must know how to defend the stance of the country they MUST BE COMPETENT. please bear that in mind.
On the other hand, maybe this is the kind of person we need in office: simple, honest, trustworthy and uncomplicated. Most of those in office now make the simple things complicated and confusing.
@BarbaraIsabelaax it is not just about having a masters degree. Its about answering the questions thrown upon you substantially and concretely. The qualification of a person is not based on his degree as a whole, but the manner he answers questions and defend his stance must also be considered. Given that he will represent the country or he will be THE VOICE of the country it is with utmost importance that he already mastered the craft of DIPLOMACY and INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS.
being an ambassador means having the right to speak for your country... you do not speak for your own but for the sake of your country's people.. be diplomatic enough to defend your country but at the same time, know the UN policy of the country which you are in.. :)
@GIDEONNIK HOW DO YOU KNOW MR. LEE DID NOT MAKE AN EFFORT WHAT KIND OF EFFORT DO YOU WANT FROM HIM HIS ENGLISH ACCENT OR ENGLISH VOCABULARY?HE'S BEEN AND AMBASSADOR FOR 6 MONTHS I THINK THIS VIDEO WAS LATE TO UPLOAD.WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR THEN YOU WILL FIND OUT IF HE IS DOING HIS JOB OR NOT.ONE HUNDRED PERCENT YOUR COUNTRY IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SOMEBODY'S MISTAKES AND IF HE DOES THEN HE'S OUT OF HIS JOB DONT WORRY...
AW COME ON THERITIERDEGRYFFONDR YOU ARE JUST SPECULATING OF INVASION.DON'T YOU THINK THAT THE CHINESE ALREADY INVADED IN YOUR COUNTRY? FOR SURE YOU LOOK CHINESE!!MOST OF FILIPINOS HAVE 25, 50 PERCENT CHINESE SO WHY YOU DONT LIKE HIM??HE MIGHT BE ONE OF YOUR RELATIVES.
Regardless what country, to be an AMBASSADOR reflects the nation. When SAUDI Prince FAISAL was made ambassador at young age, he had to undergo series of training and study as not to embarrass the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Effort is appreciated, but as the way it looks AMB LEE did not make this effort.
not all chinese who has master's degree is very smart in answering english questions mr. morta a lot of master's degree or doctorate cant even say or pronounce an english word but they are the smartest people on earth believe me.we have lots in here in canada.
@BarbaraIsabelaax A Master's Degree doesn't mean you're very competent in diplomacy, as clearly seen here. But you're a troll. And I shall not argue any further. I rest my case.
because i dont judge him by the wrong interview with mr. osmena.what about you do you know mr. lee i guess not you only know him the way he answer question you dont know his background he could have a master's degree .so you dont judge him miorta...
@BarbaraIsabelaax it's very admirable of you to want to defend him, but it's a lost cause. He doesn't even understand what he's doing there. He isn't even aware of the conflicts dividing the two nations. Perhaps he has a great heart and perhaps he is some wonderful person. But that is not the issue here. Those questions are so easy to answer. Anyone with the ability to put 2 thoughts together can infer or find a way out. Can you just imagine what would happen if he faced the Chinese delegation?
IT POP UP IN MY ACCOUNT AND WE HAVE OUR CAREGIVER HERE WHOSE A FILIPINO NICE LADY. THAT'S WHY I TROLLED THIS VIDEO AND SEEMS NOT RIGHT.THE PERSON WHO HANDLE THE INTERVIEW IT'S NOT THE WAY WE INTERVIEWED HERE IN CANADA.
@BarbaraIsabelaax This is a hearing of the Commission on Appointments: he is here to be judged. I agree he has a difficult time aligning two English words, or understanding the notes that are being handed to him (which contain the answers), but the task of a diplomat is to be skilled in language and political science. The only credential he puts forwards is that he is a friend of the President. Is that how people are voted into office in Canada? Like him, you don't get the point. I wonder why...
As a Canadian citizen we never judge a person right away.It should take us time and effort to witness one's qualities. Some great qualities don't necessarily show up right away but once they do, you may be gaining a valuable relationship, that may have been missed by judging so quickly. That's how we don't belong to a poor country. It's about discipline and organizing things.
Believe me the President of the Philippines is not stupid if he knows that Mr. Lee can't communicate well enough he will not appoint him on this kind of job and for sure he will send an interpreter if he doesnt.so dont worry TrifectaXC. I did the research and that I am confident that this man is capable of the job maybe you are the one did not research as well as to a general you are only think of one thing and that's wrong...
@BarbaraIsabelaax Seriously, why are you trolling all these videos? He can't even communicate effectively with Osmena, how in the world can he communicate effectively with anybody else? He doesn't even know what diplomacy is. Are you even a Filipino? If you are a Filipino and you love the Philippines, you would not approve of such an irresponsible and incompetent appointment. Baka kayong dalawa lang ang nagkakaintindihan nito.
woowo how could a chinese and chinese misunderstood their own language it's a joke TrifectaXZ how many times i told you in china they use their own language they don't used foreign language...It seems you are judging him and that is wrong...just let him do his job and that would be a good example as for us a good citizen.
He is an insult to the Filipino Chinese community. There are plenty from the community who are more competent and speak flawless Chinese, English and Filipino who can be tapped for the position not to mention the roster of seasoned diplomats.
Mr. Lee an excellent chinese communicator and knows the culture very well. I bet his main goal simply maintain good relations within the country . By speaking with the leaders and establishing a friendly relationship.he maybe a trustworthy that's why the president appoint him.Usually much of the communications will cover issues such as foreign aid, and what exactly what the country expects of the other. His chinese speaking is perfectly fit to the country.Every country has different diplomat.
@BarbaraIsabelaax Good relations is not enough. You clearly don't know the particular issues we're having with China. You're thinking of a generalized diplomacy, stating facts like good relations, businesses, foreign aid, and such, but seeing and knowing our current issues with China, I'd say we'd need a better ambassador, both trustworthy and competent. He doesn't even know where to start, when asked by Osmena on what his focuses will be, were he to be made Ambassador to Beijing.
If you cannot even present one argument correctly, be it in English, if you have no experience aside from honorary positions, if you cannot even understand the main geographic brawls between these two nations without being handed a note, if you cannot even speak English - and yes, I say English, because diplomats should be fluent in several languages, English being the bare minimum - then what are you doing there?
TrifectaXz if your diplomat is fluent in english to deliberate the message to filipinos then do you think she/he can deliberate to communicate chinese?chinese never speak english they speak their mother tongue.so therefore it's just the same thing...I may think that the president knows his competence in communicating to chinese. There are lots of interpreter in your country so he can speak chinese then their will be filipino translator I dont think its a big deal!!filipinos are smart people.
@BarbaraIsabelaax Of course he can. There are many diplomats around the world who can speak man languages, so it wouldn't be much to expect our ambassador to be fluent in two. He wouldn't be a very good ambassador if he needs a translator to properly communicate. See, communication is a very crucial part, and we cannot risk misunderstandings. We know our country's issues better than you do, so please research first before stating your mind.
Believe me Iheritierdegryffondr all political activity is about business. That is why diplomat is representing the country how chinese people will come to your country to do business in the philippines and that would create jobs and profit as well for the benefit of your people. It's not only about friendship.
@BarbaraIsabelaax Well your comments just show that you're talking about diplomacy not just from an outsider's point of view but from that of someone who has a SERIOUS misunderstanding of foreign relations. Business? Friendship? And when China decides to just invade the much-contested islands in the Western Philippine sea - how can a businessman, who has stated that he does not prioritize this issue, deal with this ? Do keep in mind that in diplomacy, one's country's interests must be protected.
@BarbaraIsabelaax @BarbaraIsabelaax And why is the President confident in appointing Mr Lee ? No one knows for sure but Mr Lee might have a good track record in business, as do lot of Filipino-Chinese.
Unfortunately, diplomacy and foreign service are not just about business.
But one thing I can tell you is that the President is not infallible. And questioning his infallibility (or questioning his choices, for that matter) is one of the very fortunate things democracy enables Filipinos to do.
@BarbaraIsabelaax Dignity is not the case here. We need someone with competence in diplomacy, and diplomacy involves negotiations and communications, which, in this case, surely needs competence in the English language as well. There's no point in being able to talk fluently with the Chinese if you can't properly relay the message to the Filipinos.
@azum49 HEY DO YOU KNOW MR. LEE WELL!!I GUESS NOT!!YOU ARE MORE FOOL..THANK YOU!!!..why is the president confident to appoint him??huh!!do you know!!so you dont!!do dont call me fools you are!!why he need to speak fluent english you fool as long as he knows to speak tagalog you fool again...
@BarbaraIsabelaax Obviously, you don't know the history and politics in the PH. Mr Lee is a political appointee, meaning he didn't go through years of building a career in foreign service. I think some political appointees are competent, and competent ones will be able to handle this hearing with ease and show that he is the right man for the job. Remember, we're talking relations with China, which is extremely important. It will be disastrous if we don't have the right person as ambassador.
you fools. Yes, mr. Lee is fluent in chinese, but remember he's gonna represent us, not the Chinese. How can mr lee relay each party's msge or intenions, if he doesnt even speak fluent english? Come to think about it.

Mr. Lee has basically no knowledge of our current foreign relations with China, and his lack of competence in the English language is a potential roadblock in our international communications with China.
@simoncpu agreed. he doesn't seem to understand human communication either. it's like the guy found his brain overnight and is just now figuring out how it works
