@shadowmoses2385 - Old comic is old, but just wanted to add - this is despite the fact that Megaman nearly blew Wily's head off at the end of one of the games with the retort of, "I'm more than a robot now." Sounds like free will to me, especially since he experiences doubt and guilt in later games. X may have been the first 'android' built, but Rock was hands-down the first robot to open its own mind beyond programs and the Laws of Robotics.

megaman is a robot and not an android. in the megaman universe, a robot is an advanced AI. But robots lack free will, and are bound to asimovs 3 laws of robotics. megaman is programed to be good. so thats the only reason why he is good. and thats why all of wilys robots are evil. they are programed that way. megaman could be programed to be evil. thats why megaman X was such a big deal to dr light, because X is the first robot to be able to think and act for itself, which are reploids.

In fact, that stuff you just mentioned was what made X so special and the first of his kind... and it was also the reason that he was sealed in a capsule for 100 years in diagnostic hibernation (though he was only meant to be sealed for 30 years, but since nobody was around to open X's capsule, he remained like that for 100 years until Dr. Cain discovered the remains of Dr. Light's laboratory).

@shadowmoses2385 I don't know about you, but I consider the original american cartoon canon. And Dr. Light says numerous times in that cartoon that he gave Megaman "self-determination." Megaman was "programmed" to be a handy-man robot. He's good because he wants to be and Dr. Light was a positive influence. "Are you my father?" "Yes, in a sense, I suppose I am."

So when Megaman X came out, the primary focus of those games was free will. The fact that the Megaman robots already seemed to be alive, makes it hard to truly distinguish Megaman from X. IMO, that is.
