Benefit for some more power?? Get an EVO. hate it when reviewers complain that it doesn't have enough power. And when it does they suggest get the lower model for mpg. You can't win them all people. Okay, rant over.
@rowsdower12 Steve reviews a 37k base audi A5 and talks about how he was surprised with the power, yet reports a 6.4 0-60 time. The ralliart is a bloody fast car. While I agree with the interior problems, the audience buying this car is after performance. I'm a subaru wrx owner, but still think this car offers amazing performance and awd for the money. All journalists do is comment on "soft touch materials". Who cares when you're 37K audi is gets the doors blown off by cars 10k less.
i bought this car back in February. the car is nothing short of phenomial. it's a little pricey but that $ pays for the excitement you get when you place her in sport mode and own the road with the power she delivers. she handles great. i've embarrassed a infiity g37 and a new bmw 355i so far.
@honeyisaac I don't think its ugly, its just that they only offer the turbo engine in the hatchback body. I rather have it in the 4 door Mazda 3. The Civic Si,Cobolt SS & Subaru offer their performance engines in different car formats.
@honeyisaac Actually I think the new Speed3 is hideous, but if you were in this guy's shoes who's paid to not think it's ugly, then you'll also think otherwise if you were paid to do this as well.
@AguyNamedHorse All you gotta do is drive it hard all night long around the corners. Roughly that is. Don't forget to hit the brakes when things get slippery.
Motor Trend tested this against the Mazdaspeed3 and said it was actually 0.3 seconds faster to 60. Impressive considering the AWD, higher curb weight, and less horsepower.
@DJFG85 AWD generally leads to a better 0-60 b/c you're gonna have traction with 230hp. Not so in an FWD with 263hp. I don't find the time difference impressive at all.
@bezzle67 I'm not sure I can agree with you on that. AWD cars generally are slower than their 2WD counterparts since they add weight, they also decrease MPG.
@DJFG85 It really doesn't matter if you agree with me, that's generally how it is. Btw, you seem to think that me responding to the 0-60 time means that I think AWD cars are faster. I don't. They're quicker, not faster. There's a difference. Again, AWD cars tend to be quicker 0-60 b/c they have much better traction. However, the weight normally comes into account for slower 1/4 mile times.
I really want to like this car because I love the evo and I'm a sucker for wagons ( hate "cute utes" and would rather look nerdy than cute) ... But I have a outback turbo (2.5xt) manual with leather seats , dual zone climate etc... It's probably as fast, more room, about the same gas mileage , better off road etc... I do like the DCT though as I enjoy it in my Nissan ( although it can be a bit clunky at green lights)
BMW 1 series is a rubbish car... you either get a base one that has no functionality, the boot is tiny - and the engine is shit. Or you get a decent engine and spend $20,000 more for it than the Ralliart and still has less functionality and practicality.
@ksearles85 Only in America since you said BOOT, your in Jolly England were you get the FOUR CYLINDER 1 series and yes that SLOW. We only get the Inline 6 Turbo or Non-Turbo and its already expensive ($35K for the 135i) but with a few tweak the Turbo 135 is FAST. I have the Ralliart on my short list because its not a Subaru for one thing and I will need space in the future.
@dj4monie ??? I don't understand if you're insulting me or not? I'm in Australia mate, not Amerca lol .. would you prefer I said trunk? We say boot in Australia .. Anyways, Sure the turbo 135 is fast lol .. but it's fucking expensive, that's a $100,000 car (new) in Australia .. I'd rather spend $70 on an Evo and do some mods to it, BMWs have never been good value for money, except maybe an M3.
@cloakster7 You're kidding yourself right? What part of a 128i makes you think it will even touch this car? You do know a 128i has almost 50 less HP and 60 less torque than this right?
@ksearles85 Well, the Ralliart only has 7 more BHP and 50 more lb-ft of torque, but that only matters in a straight line. I was talking about anything but a straight line where the 128's suspension would help it go around the twisties faster than the Ralliart Sportback. Plus, the Ralliart Sportback weighs 110kg more than the 128i.
nah i don't think i would. the base 1 series has a terrible engine. the 3 liter straight 6 in the 1 series is meant to produce 275 horsepower, but in the american form, it's been detuned to give 230.
so you're putting up with the heaviness of a huge engine for none of the benefits.
