This is an absolutely fabulous video. I am a definite aviation enthusiast, so this is right up my alley! This place will be my ultimate vacation spot before I die! Great job once again!
One thing i have always wondered. you see people constantly taking clips of take offs and as you'd expect they get blown all over the place. Has anybody ever thought of using a Tripod (if there is room to) or even a gorilla pod to keep the cameras stable
airbus a320 that you saw is used for regional flight it serves cayenne in french guiana, fort de france in martinique , pointe a pitre in guadeloupe, st maarten ,port au prince in haiti and miami
Thx for sharing! was it just a few times takeoff "from mountain side"? would love to see the big ones takeoff over the beach... will be there myself for the first time in about 2 months, cant wait!
This is Princess Juliana Airport in St. Maarten - Dutch side and St. Martin - French side - one island. Air France and KLM from Holland fly in daily. No other place like it in the world to watch planes while sipping a cool drink on the beach!
Half of St. Maarten is French, so I believe it's based in SXM (or some other French island) and they use it to fly within the Caribbean, kind of like American Eagle flies a bunch of planes out of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
i never knew a320's operated in this airport...i'm curious though, is princess juliana an island? and is it far away from other countries? nice video btw i that's the best airport in the world to spot planes. amazing.
Thanks for the comment. I suggest you do a search on the United Airlines website or some other ticket service, as fares can widely vary depending on days and dates.
The ones in St. Maarten are pretty good, but I've seen better in places like Cancun. The swimming/snorkeling is also really good because the water is so calm. However, at the nearby island of Anguilla...wow...best beaches I've ever seen.
Haha thanks for the rating. Unfortunately, the only 747 flying to St. Maarten at the time was Corsair's flight, which operated two times a week: Saturday and Thursday. I couldn't film it on Saturday because it was the day I arrived (and one week later departed) and I couldn't film it on Thursday because I was on a full-day tour outside of St. Maarten. It was probably the biggest disappointment of the trip, also because I had really screwed up Corsair's takeoff video and I wanted to do it again.
-I don't know if this is the correct answer, but there are some locations in FSX that by default come with special scenery, that is, they have a level of detail greater than places with normal scenery. (Think of it like add-on scenery from Microsoft) St. Maarten is one of those locations.
-A lot more than I showed in the video, but the thing is that the majority of what I recorded is extra stuff that really isn't that interesting. Pretty much all the clips were cropped to a fraction of their original length, showing only the "good stuff." For example, the clip of the Air France A340 landing is more than 2 minutes long by itself because I started recording from the base leg of the approach. So...yeah...I recorded over 90 minutes, but only about 10% of it was really any good.
If you recall some time ago I told everyone I was going to be away for a while, but I never gave a single detail. (You even asked me about it but I didn't respond.) I guess I can say... surprise! :)
the air france plane is comes from a French island

St Maarten is on the "Netherland Antilles" that's why you see a 747 KLM commercial jet there but KLM is Dutch but Netherland uses it too.
