I was born with bilateral duane syndrome and it was considered extremely rare when I was born in 1968. The specialist at our local university teaching hospital was so amazed at seeing someone with this condition that they videotaped my eyes for his students to see. This was when I was about 12. I have never met another personal with this condition, and it was actually neat to see this video. Thanks for posting!!

I have duane too, type 4 actually. Just my left eye that cannot move to the left. One comment you made below is so true, yes its a great party trick!! Many thought I could keep my eyes crossed for so long while they struggled with that. Of course I told them at the end that I cheated. haha!

Im 18 and it has never effected me in anyway and on the plus side I have near to perfect vision

And for driving it doesnt matter if u can or cant turn your eyes because your not supposed only us your eye you have too turn your head always if you need proof just watch canadas worst drive.

Im 12, When i move my head to the right, My right eye doesnt move that way, But it moves the other way, And my other eye moves any way. It really annoys me when people notcie it and call me :/ xxx

your DS isnt that bad i have it in my right eye and i cant move it either way left or right....but when i cover my left eye with my hand and than try to move my right eye "DS" to the left it goes to the left also in my right goes in too.... But i find my DS very Weird

FUCK! I'm kind of pissed, because ive got type 1 in my left eye, and i just recently heard that it could prevent me from being able to join the marines, since i don't really know much about it, or who to ask, since I'm still only a freshman, can someone tell me if I am not able to go into service.

I have Duane's in my left eye and can't move it to the left. The unfortunate thing is that it is also my dominate eye. It's never been a problem seeing or driving or anything along those lines. However, growing up you do hear about it from other kids and it's important to let your children know it isn't their fault and they don't need to feel embarrassed. When you have it, you learn to adjust by turning your head.

We just found out our 1 year old daughter has this. We went to an eye doctor when she was about 5 months old and they didn't notice anything unusual, but we kept noticing it. We thought it was a lazy eye. Worried about her driving.

My parents worried about me riding a bike and driving. Because I never knew any different I do both just fine. The Dr. told my parents I naturally see double, but my brain adjusted to it when I was a baby and I've never noticed.

My friends don't know I have this eye problem, its not that noticeable and is a great party trick! lol

I was around 18 months when my parents found out it was Duanes!

Well I have the duane syndrome type 2 were my left eye is affected and cannot move inwards or toward the center. It started becoming noticible when i was around 12 and what I do to make it look not that much noticible is that I turn my head a bit sideways so then i dont have a double vision. I am 13 now and hopefully during the December vacations I will get operated.

My 2 year old daughter has Duane Syndrome, only in her left eye. I worry about how it will affect her as she grows and whether kids will be mean about it. I've taken her for eye exams and her vision is perfect otherwise and I hope this stays as she ages.

y0 i've got it in my left eye... get it sorted mate kids do take the piss..... it hurts :P for a bit anyways then you get used to it lol but seriously u can get opperation to weaken the muscle in the eye... i had like 5 opperations and its got better but still bad.... i hate it alot

yah better dont too risky if you undergo operations, if i have eyes that still can see clearly i would be very thankful, rather than too wear specs.

I was told this is a rare condition, some eye doctors I saw had to go research about it before they could treat me! Because my eyes are like this I naturally have always seen double. But because I was born with this my brain naturally corrected it and I only see one. It really isn't too noticeable unless I am trying to look either way, but because I'm use to moving my head to see whats beside me, I never use my eyes to look to the side. I don't think I would have an operation, too many risks...

hey.... i seen double as a kid till i was around 11 stopped and have had 5 opperations... doesnt fix fully just helps a little .... no risks realy ... i wouldnt care about it but.... it makes me look like a fucking loony

He has been operated in Bologna last year when he was 5 yrs old and honestly his looking has changed and as doctor said tks to this operation he is not going to have posture problems. He is not going to turn the head , anyway now that one year is passed from the operation only when he wants people can notice his problem.

I'm Petra from the Netherlands. My daughter has te same as you but only on her left eye. She have also a laizy eye. When the laizy eye is over than they can do a surgery. Do you had any surgery's with the Duane Syndroom? Do you have more information over this eye syndroom for me? Here in Netherland is very less information about this. I don't have much information on this. It is a very rare eye condition. I know that I have no muscles in the sides of my eyes, thats why my eyes have restricted movement. I have not had surgery for this, it is not needed, i can see fine. I don't have the best peripheral vision thou!
