Top car - had a 1988 model for ten years, got rid of it in 2000. Used to breakdown all the time but still loved it. Huge mistake getting rid of it, modern hot hatches can not compete (and I've) owned a few. This one looks lovely, keep looking after it and never sell or you will regret it!
@lalagabor I agree with what you are saying, i had 2 Gtt's. Dont go back to your roots, my friend wasted thousands doing this and he didnt get quite the same feeling as when he was 18. They have problem after problem, my friends got stuck in gear and wouldnt come out! strange but these silly things happen with these cars! Think the 5 Turbo was fantastic in its time but not in 2011 sadly!

dont deserve the rep they have mostly generated by turbo failure. mine have been reliable but i always warm up (garret reccomend 4 - 5 mins) before driving away and tick over should be 1 - 3 mins depending on how youve been driving.
they are clearly not shit engines. and i reckon ur mechanic was ripping u off if it was an engine out job to change the clutch. yh its completely normal to want to drink the toilet water out of a ragheads bog than own one of the best hot hatches ever made....whatever ur into mate
after owning a few they are a handful to look after, yes its a turbo car but it seems the engine hasn't been designed to out live a turbo, in which i mean your likely to get engine failure before turbo failure, my 2nd 5gtt had 82k with a rebuild at 43k and i encountered a hg failure decelerating from about 60mph which wasn't been ragged, also motorway driving is a pain in the arse, i couldn't keep a steady 70mph due to over heating, from prolonged open throttle,and turbo spool,not good in a car
come on now they dnt blow up dat easy lol engine out to change a clutch lol mayb the way u did it an like u said u owned plenty if they were crap as u say it wud of just been the 1
thye "blow up" becasue if inaducate cooling not controled by the driver, if the fan stops working or the rad swtich is faulty it will quickly become to hot as the turbo is water cooled
