Just look at Cung Le.Though in real ife,he is great martial artist and also a world champion, his acting skill left a lot to be desired. Having said so, it doesnt mean that he would not succeed in the future to become the next big thing. Donnie Yen is one of the model eg who started off as a nobody.

When you train for competition, you train to hit the other guy; when you train for film, you aim for the opposite. I watched a video of a old Donnie Yen seminar, and he pretty much said as much.

Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Tony Jaa and the like are all extremely good and dedicated martial artists who train just as hard as any professional athlete, just for a different purpose.

But Donnie Yen is the wrong example he is an accomplished martial artist, his mom is very famous for her martial habilities too. His background is very solid. He is actually a fan of UFC and was considering competition. But a recurring knee injury prevents him frrom it.

donnie yen is movie actor, cung le is veteran martial artist with tons of fighting experiences. The result is pretty clear. In term of power and technique, Cung Le will be the winner, however in term of salary owned per year, Donnie Yen is definitely a winner. In this world, unfortunately, money speaks. With money, Donnie Yen can hire Cung Le to play movie together where Cung must lose in the story. Ending all fan boys wet dream once for all.

When he was a teenager, he obtained a medal in a wushu competition held in the United States, known as Boston Combat Zone. i think the reason for the skepticism that if these actors know martial arts or not is that there are also a good number of actual actors that learn martial arts for a couple of months just for a movie. So i think that can screw up the image of certain true martial artists like Donnie Yen who are very well trained in that field. I think usually chinese films tend to have real martial artists whereas Hollywood just tries to get some A list celeb to do it.
