i first saw super metroid in 1997 at a game shop,but it was too expensive and my parents didn't get it for me..now 15 years later i bought it and beat it just 5 minutes ago and i just want to say - what a spectacular game...flawless..from start to finish.it took me 8 and a half hours on my first playthrough and i loved every second of it.even after all these years it hasn't aged one bit.no wonder it headlines so many top 10 lists for the SNES - the best console ever,

Looking at this vid, I was left wondering how in the name of FUCK we had the patience to complete these games when we were kids. I daresay most of today's gamers who were brought up on stuff like this (not to mention 8 bit gaming) would pull our hair out if we attempted to do so now in 2012. I think it took me a week or so to finish it when it came out. Would probably take me six months now!

hands down the most freaky game in my recollection, i played atari when i was in diapers. this is more psycologically disturbing than doom. it is best to play this on a rainy day. thanks for posting it brought back good memories.

In late 2004 I and loads of friends at school bought this game for our SNESs we had bought in the summer of that year, and we were discussing it, and then Prime 2 Echoes, for months on end. It's ironic because when the Wii and DS blew up into huge success these hardcore Nintendo fans became 360 nuts when they were dedicated Nintendoids in Nintendo's virtual absence from the forefront of gaming in that weirdly unmemorable generation :/

Play at your own pace, not signed onto Xbox live listening to a bunch of spoiled 8 year olds wine about "lag" or "glitches". No wading thru poorly done cutscenes, etc. In Super Metroid, the world tells the story w/o having some lousy voice actor explaining it to you.

@xHAZELRAHx There is a feeling of "playing a movie" w/ some newer games. I can't speak for MGS but in Read Dead Redemption  you spend so much time watching cutscenes or riding your horse while another character chatters at you. There were moments I was like, "C'mon, get on w/ it already." But there is room for narrative in games, if it doesn't conflict too much w/ the gameplay. BioShock for ex did a great job of weaving exposition into the game w/o being interruptive. I

This broke my heart. I started playing this game and loved it (I actually played Symphony of the Night and Shadow Complex before, as well as Metroid Prime 3, so I wanted to know what awesomeness served as inspiration for such masterpieces of gaming), but then I got stuck..

There was this weekend when I decided to set up my old videogames in my living room, so that me and my father could play like when I was a kid. It was on Sunday, and I spent so much time on it that there was only some left. We picked up Super Metroid, which he taught me to play. It was magical to relive those old times, with him remembering stuff in the game that even I didn't and his grateful thanks in the end of the day.

Metroid Prime is actually amazing but a different production team took over after the first one, and despite completely ripping off the style the later ones were much weaker. To any haters though, play the first Prime its a deserving successor to this game.
