This isn't bad, considering he's a young actor with no training. However, the suggestion that it's 'awesome' is way off the mark. There's no sense that the words are coming spontaneously to him and the random, unfocused shuffling around and often vague gestures are distracting. Interpreting the speech in this 'angry young man' way is one thing but the overlong pauses kill any drama he's trying to create. On the plus side, he has a decent voice and an interesting face. Good luck for the future!
@hiphopcows you have written 5 comments so far if I've counted right and I don't care if anyone agrees or disagrees with you, your the one who "can't bear" this video so maybe you should just stop looking at it and it won't wind you up as much
Hiphopcowz this is Lewis. I understand what your saying and I don't mind about critics, it got me a lot if work any how. But no one seems to be going on about it writing loads of comments, your the only one, so maybe you should drop it because I've not seem craglea or whoever it is going on making a big fuss about it. Only you
ok..i know i havent commented in a while and i dont want to start this up again with "cragleah" but anyways......lewis no offence but im not the biggest fan of this video but im sure youre a good actor....in anycase you cant be an actor and not have critics and i have nothing against you.what annoys the hell out of me is your friend here who put this video up and acts like youre gods gift to mankind.....he cant BEAR to have ANYONE say they didnt enjoy this video as much as he did. its annoying
Mate, good effort, although I didn't beleive it. It was a little too theatrical for my liking, particuarly given that you chose to film it. The location of filming could have been much more inspired too; you see, a bedroom just is not very imaginitive, and while accents are not imperetive, I just can't see Shylock as an angry northern teenager. There is something about you that is quite watchable though and I'm sure you'll develop well as the years go by. Were you working on this for an exam?
if it was too theatrical then you would be able to believe it. Every other piece of material Lewis has produced is the same angry northern teenager. He's pretty good damn shite if you ask me.
Come see my adaption of Shylocks Speech, rate comment and subscribe, and C'mon, at least I dont consider myself to be the messiah of the speech. But okay I'll "defy" your speech. At least with some professionalism, I'm not vain.
i see where you are going with this still needs a bit of work projection isnt bad you wouldnt get such negative responses if you didnt claim to be the messiah or get ure friends to i cannot properly judge you on one monologue alone so get another one up please keep at it
For starters, your copying Pacino's speech pattern in this, particularly 'mocked at my gains'.
Secondly, i dont believe youve lost your daughter, i dont believe youve been discriminated against your entire life, i dont see your pride in your culture and heritage. Sorry dude, I think more than anything this is a start, not a finished product. Your taking the finest writer's works and, as you have said below denirezler, looked probably only to pacino's version and done an angry teen copy.
Thank you for all the comments. What people are not getting is this is a modern interpretation of the speech. If you watch the al pacino version you will realise that I have done this correcty to those standards so watch that video before posting your comments on how you think it should be done. Its not meant to be 17th century venice, its modern day britain and thats how its meant to be put across so just look at it more carfully next time before commenting
RIght now, if you were to present this speech the way you read it, they would most likely slap and be on their way. We must be able to feel the oppression Antonio has caused you, and instead there is only an angry teenager with big words.
Not bad very good feeling for the text. Definitely not something I would want to see on the stage in the actual. As far as a person your age, from your time reading this piece, brilliant. But as far as the Shylock, from 17th century Venice, I don't believe you have captured his character, you have too much angst and modern gesture. The most important aspect of this speech is the ability to shock to silence two powerful, prejudiced Christian. The speech must be passionate, yes, but irrefutable.
also you got this whole moving over and back thing.. Bigmac79.. one must control your footing when performing.. when you move side to side you are taking the reality you are trying to build.. im a trainer actor myself and its one of the problems i faced..
to much hands.. your trying to push into the moment wth your body actions.. but you dont need to ... you have the focus to keep the moment without jumping around the room.. remember restraining the action sometimes is more powerful in moments then lashing out, giving the audience the idea of the struggle that you are going through as a character.. but good work
your good at everything . Id like to see more of your stuff. ignore stupid comments this person doesnt know what hes talking about. i think your brilliant, top notch
Seems to me like your full of shit, just checked out your vids, who are you to comment on other peoples videos, you've not done one yourself probably not got the balls. everyone else loves his work except you, your criticisms aren't even constructive, they're just gay and i think your just a student nobhead who thinks he knows it all. whos with me?
Bigmac79's comment was constructive. Not stepping from one foot to the other really is one of the first rules of acting class.
'everyone loves his work except you' - firstly thats not true, and secondly if we're analysing a piece of art here performed by this guy why do you react so angrily to debate about it? Anyone's opinion is valid, provided it is an educated one
By the way, I have posted what you will no doubt regard as a negative 'gay'comment below, but how can an actor learn if everyone just pats him on the back and says he's great? He's good, but nowhere near the finished product as an actor. People here saying this is amazing arent doing him any favours but making him feel like the dog's bollocks, when theres SO MUCH more he can get from this speech.
Wow this is amazing. I'm so using this as my college piece you've inspired me. We are working on the merchant of venice in college in our drama studies at the moment. I will tell my friends to have a look at this. fantastic
Stick some multi angled cameras on you. put you in the costume and beard. give you some other actors to play across and you would have been the perfect choice for the film. they should have chosen you instead of pacino
@cragleah its too "copying pacino" if you get what i mean....its not bad.......quite good...but its not the best...its like you watched the pacino video and did this immediately after that.....personally i think pacinos is better......but this is alright
This isn't bad, considering he's a young actor with no training. However, the suggestion that it's 'awesome' is way off the mark.
