Is the black blade completely black like say on a spyderco military or does the coating not cover the area of the bushings? Just got one and was wondering if thats normal.
@Temperdgrump ..I had to find my black D2 710 to check because of your question. The area under the liners/scales by the phosporous bronze washers is not covered in Benchmade's BK1 coating. I honestly don't know the reason for that.
@ik999 ...it's an Outstanding knife! One of Spyderco's earlier creations and mainstays like the Endura. Still in production but, on the expensive side.
I have an old one but, it's one of those blades I forgot where it is...lol!
@L1NG4N ...I personally have no experience with the Benchmade 530 but, here in Hawaii at knife-fighting seminars this was one of the top 3 knives desired.
Great review. I'm a dedicated Benchmade fanatic. I'm about the order a 710 for myself but I'm completely split between the satin finish blade and the black BK1 coated blade. How well does the black coated blade hold up to scratches ?
@Devastator38 ...i carried it for a few weeks and it held up good considering I carry it only for self-defense. It did get bang against poles, walls and sticks as I practiced with it.
praticing with a "live" blade is not adviseable but, i like to practice drawing, opening, and simulated stiking with a knife I carry. and some times you get to close to objects such as trees and stuff...lol!
I think it's as durable as Emersons Black-T finish but, nothing last forever right?
2 Problems that I had with my 710 d2: 1) axis spring broke after a few days of use (fuck, it was hard to receive another one spare spring from USA to Ukraine but Benchmade finally helped me and sent it) 2) blade hit! the backspacer out of the box (Fuck!) One of my friends had the same problem.
It costs $100+ and I did not expext such shit from that! Anyway I carry it almost 1.5 years because I had a chance to compare it to other folding knives that I could afford
Don't do bushcraft, camping, or the like. I look at a knife and think what kind of "I'll take pleasure in guttin' you boy" situation I'll get out of it...lol!
Great review and great knife (...well, except for the whole 1111111115 thing. Hah! Just shooting you shit Dude.)
I do the same flipper thing all day with my Griptilian 550. It's addicitive.
Also, there's a knife you might want to check out. It's a Zero Tolerance 0200. It's a pretty cool little knife and it fits into my paws so you might also like it.
me wants it lol

yeah I know my friend got a whole bunch of Benchmades in and even though I had one already I didn't have that model.
She ask if I wanted to buy a Griptilian too. Told her I had (3) already. Should have bought it then...so I wouldn't have to go back on Monday...lol!
