  • I appreciate the shopping list! I'm going to make trip to lowes so I can start my new flick this weekend.

  • Where did you get your daylight gel roll? I'm trying to find it on the internet but searching for "daylight gel" isn't getting me that exact thing. Help!

  • @ajvpr Sorry, my jargon isn't very correct. What you want to look for is CTB or "Color Temperature Blue", which comes in various shades. All my gels were scrap given to me by former cohorts at the TV station I used to work at. Try eBay for a decent deal.

  • Awesome vids I subscribed love how everything is like DIY

  • When I make vids I just turn on a bunch of lights

  • well i use the LED work lights. and florescent from home dept no heat and battery pack to make the mobile

  • Ur vdos r so much informative!! Thank you so much! keep making themm!! which type of light and watts do u think is the most ideal for a 3 point lighting set up for a low budget indoor shoot?

Secondly can u plsss post the link to your facebook and twitter... cudnt find it! Would love to stay in touch with u... what ur doing is really one hell of an inspiration n kick in the ass for aspiring film makers like me! :)

  • Usually when I see a friend request off of a random person, I know its for them to get popular. So I ignore it. But not this time. This is actually good stuff.

  • @MrMadMinecraft Thanks! Glad you liked it.

  • @MrMadMinecraft same

  • Crew west seems to be missing the point entirely. If your gonna be laughed at this video isn’t made for you. if you have a love for film making but don’t have the cash for a pro set up what’s wrong with getting a little creative.

Funny I thought that was what film making was all about .

Any way fugal keep it up

    thanks

  • Do you have a total cost for this light kit? I'm starting from scratch...

  • You are a genius in my book. I want to learn all the frugal ways to do movie and video making and photography. It is so fun to get something really good for less money. Anybody can spend a lot of money if they have it. It takes creativity to do anything with less.

  • Ugh, I freakin hate those totes!!!! HAHA, sorry. I have to empty half a dozen or more of those every weak at work. LOL

  • @cyrax037 But that is a nice kit, and very well organized!!!

  • What no camera, just joking LOL..

This is a light Kit but may be an idea to have a small second camera, battery's, some make up, for actors

  • @Films4You Oh yeah, I agree. I've also got an audio box, a camera bag and a duffel with my light stands/table dolly inside.

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker add Tape measure, light meter, cleaning cloth, something to protect against rain.. now it gets heavier, and heavier. So you need some energy drinks, LOL

  • do you have anything to make a soft box?

  • @magick724 I usually just use a 200 watt bulb inside a paper lantern hung from a light stand.

  • Definitely creative and very helpful for small indie film makers. However, if I showed up to a shoot with that kit, I would be laughed out of the business. I'm probably not your target audience though.

  • @crewwest Laughter means everyone is happy, right?

  • That is the most tidy light kit I have ever seen!

  • How is the CRI of this lighting setup? The higher the CRI the whiter the light is when balanced for a certain color temperature. The whiter the light the more colors in the visible spectrum will be seen. This is why motion picture lighting equipment costs what it does.

  • Thanks for the tips; love the channel.

  • I have to agree with someguyfromOklahoma, you're face does seem kinda shiny with all those lights. You should do a light test before every video, face the camera for 5-10 seconds with the lights on, review those seconds on the camera to see how harsh the light is, adjust lights accordingly and try again until perfect.

  • your lighting is too harsh...your face is shiny

  • @someguyfromOklahoma Really? Does anyone else think this? Please comment!

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker Actually i think your lighting is Excellent!

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker I think your lighting has been great from the beginning! I have always been impressed! Great job as always!

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker I personally think it's a simple matter of adding some foundation lol Or you could try adding some of that wax/cookie sheet paper that's used for baking. I put those on my clamp lights to diffuse the light.

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker I think the look in your videos is fine, although I also also like the look in color graded videos with highs pushed a little into the orange/yellow range and lows pushed a bit into the blue range... and the whole thing slightly desaturated looks nice. calebpike's channel on vimeo has some videos similar to what I'm thinking about making, lighting and color grading-wise. If anything, it seems like the look in this video is maybe a bit high contrast. Thanks for your videos!

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker check out bhphotovideo, buy some spun. its really cheap and will soften the light without dulling it too much like wax paper will, or bounce of the ceiling. you are a little shiny. i have 1 pvc stand, 3 pots, 2 blue gels, 1 500watt work light, several 100watt bulbs and 2 200watt bulbs. works well for me. but if i had the money i'd buy a few of the 200watt equivelant CFL bulbs as they run cooler and gels arent easy to attach to pot lights without then touching the bulbs...

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker I think his comment was a bit harsh - it looks fine! Found this very helpful, only thing I can see missing is some tracing/greaseproof paper for diffusing lights!

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker I agree with someguyfromOklahoma . I don't mean to criticize though, I love the videos! Are you using any diffusion? I like to treat close-up web videos like product shots and get a nice even wrap around.

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker i think it looks amazing

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker Lighting is a little harsh and yes you needed a little powder. You are lighting with shop lights though. Would be very difficult to simulate portrait lighting with those. Well done considering your tools.

  • @someguyfromOklahoma

Don't really think it's completely the lighting, could just use some cover makeup or whatever to soften the shiny spots.

  • Is your light kit always that tidy?

  • @TijmenDal Yep. It's the only way to fit everything in there!

  • For my fixed location: 6x clamp light fixtures. 6x ecosmart A19 LED bulbs. Because I don't like to cook and live in Texas. Basically 240W equivalent lighting on less than 60W of power and a single power strip. Plus the ceiling fan light in the room (7x for 280W equiv). When the bulbs are not in use for video, they're in the fixtures across the house saving power and cutting down cooling costs.

  • Hey dude, love your videos and your site. Don't stop making them!
