  • Oh...cool movie! But that was not gentle handling with your Volvo. Nice to see how the old AWD-system (before Haldex) worked, or not worked :-)

  • Bearing in mind the V70XC is more car than a 4WD (not a criticism) and it was on road tyres I think it did quite well. I have always liked Swedish cars.

  • if u could get a lower gear ratio and raise the suspension, u could fit larger wheels and gain clearance, hack off the front and rear arches and fit bull bars and snorkel!

either that or buy a landrover?

  • I -3 my Volvo v70 xc!! Only mine is tan

  • does the sunroof slide open, or only go up and down

  • @TheDylanJoyce Both. The switch for it can be pressed at the top and the bottom from a central axis to make it tilt and slide. It also has a manual fabric slide cover for when you want to pretend it doesn't have a sunroof :P

  • Have you ever had any transmission problems? thanks.

  • @chainsmokincoder Nope. The car has been reliable in my Dad's ownership, apart from the usual wear and tear things. Why do you ask?

  • @ANM4x4

I'm thinking of getting either V70 Cross country or XC70, but when I look around the net I found that XC70 has a lot of bad rap with the transmission. So I just wondering if this model has the same transmission problems.

  • @chainsmokincoder I prefer the original V70XC over the later V70XC/XC70 for a number of reasons. The original V70XC has a true Volvo chassis (for the Volvo purist) and it handles better on the road. The later V70XC/XC70s had higher ground clearance, though. The 2004 facelight saw the introduction of a haldex centre LSD for quicker AWD intervention. As far as I know the 850/V70 gearbox (the one used in this car) was an excellent unit - it's served us well. I'd recommend test driving all models.

  • @ANM4x4

    Ic.. thanks for the info.

  • @ANM4x4 Do note that the older viscous coupling system works just as fast as the haldex once it is warmed up (which takes literally a few seconds - watch the video). The AWD system is always working, just not in a 50:50 split; until traction loss to the front wheels demands power from the rear.

  • @ANM4x4

Just make sure you run same sized tires, because what fucks up the drivetrains on any AWD volvo is mismatching in tires, and change your gear oil. Im going 280,000 miles strong on my car NP

  • @MRJARDIM Actually on the Haldex LSD (2004 - today) you can have different sizes, don't know how much bigger or larger, but the smaller spare tyre works.

  • the problem with volvo's is that the front end is just so damn long! same with the audi all road cars aswell, the main thing that lets them down is the fron end. when you loos at something like a discovery 3 and 4 the distance between the front end and the front wheels is very very small.

  • @YouDiddntSeeAnything I don't think the Volvo or Audi would look very good with short overhangs, and having short overhangs would result in a longer wheelbase. Both are much better on the road than the Discovery.

  • @ANM4x4 yes I agree, its pretty impressive what some of these volvos can do though. you wouldn't really expect them to be s good off road

  • @YouDiddntSeeAnything Yea, they are pretty surprising at times. Although you're always worried about breaking something, due to the low ground clearance.

  • i`m riding on this off road every weekend on Lada 21113

  • There are very few good off roading lanes around where I live, so I can't video difficult ones too often.

  • nice vid. we own the v50 08 plate and hopefully up grafing to the xc70 in mid2011 and looking forward to sum fun like this

  • Thanks for the comment. I'm sure you'll have plenty fun in the XC70 - especially in the snow :D. How does the V50 drive?

  • drives like a dream, very comfy seating arangements, good visabilty all round only down side is the boot iss a bit small we have to midium size dogs and they feel a bit cramped in the back

  • forgot to mention it hates the snow

  • Why does it hate the snow?

  • @trance12007 Most 2wd vehicles are difficult to handle on the snow - esp those with light rear ends (i.e. the V50's estate properties). Even the videoed car, the V70 XC can easily be oversteered on the snow, as it has a rear limited slip diff'.

  • Good video. I have taken my xc70 off road a few times. I wish my xc came with manual trans. I would have paid extra for it. They only sell automatics in U.S.

  • Preatty good for what it is, I think of the XC as more of a rally style car then a off roader. Its hard to compare it when you own a V70 Xc and a LR discovery.

  • Yea. It's surprisingly capable, but as you said Disco's and such are leagues ahead. I agree that the V70XC is more suited for slippery hills/fields and gravel roads etc. Which XC / Discovery do you own (gen' wise)?

  • roads like in thiss video i'm drivin 1991 vw passat 1,9d fvd and there is no problem

  • It's obvious that the Volvo engaged the AWD system, and even got cross axled in one section (the limited slip diff' on the rear gave it traction).

  • Very nice driving. Venerations must also be heaped upon the skill of your filming technique.

  • Thank you. I wasn't the one filming though. I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)

  • Such modesty... that's another good quality of yours.
