  • I see he has a bit of a Bowie influence in this performance, I guess this was the 70s so Todd and Bowie were both the best artists of that time.

  • Priceless !! XO XO

  • Beautiful man.. I miss those days but boy was he thin...

  • "jeffvolve Todd Rundgren is best!

  • Todd Rundgren The wizard!

  • Hey, I was there too! I got a kiss. It tasted like pancake makeup. I'll never forget it.

  • VHS Video...

  • Hey Craddock! That was my first Todd show too! (same tour) October 30, 74!

What an experience...with the original Utopia too! I still have my pyramid shaped program. Had Todd sign it about 7 years ago! :0)

  • very cool...i saw him earlier in that month at Carnegie hall in NY from the 2nd row...paid a scalper $13 a seat...lol...

  • Re 1:22 leaps off tower of speakers..."Actually believes that man can fly!" Go Todd! Way too cool to have ANY footage of this era..anyone have any from The Akron Civic March 23rd 1974?This would make me fly too! OMG!

  • @lemmno mebbe 1:16 or 1:19 cannot get it just right but I Think You Know!

  • I can relate to your story. I think the first time I heard Todd was the summer of '73 and . A friend played Something/Anything for me and I was hooked. I picked uo Runt and Ballad soon after that, and then AWATS, Todd and TR's Utopia, and every other album pretty much as soon as it came out. I saw Todd on TV in '74, and then I saw Utopia at the Tower Theater in Philly just after RA came out ('77?). I also saw the guitar band tour in 2001, around the time of One Long Year. Todd is amazing!

  • Saw This tour on March 23rd 1974 at The Akron Civic Theatre. My favorite show ever!!!

  • @surffrog88 Got any VIDEO or Pics of this Civic Show? My life quest-.....it was friggin awesome!

  • Far out! This concert was one day before my birthday and I would have been all of 8 years old - fast track to 2009 and there's me, sitting in the Hammersmith Apollo with my husband of 22 years watching Todd do A Wizard A True Star .....the guy is a LEGEND in the true sense of the word.

  • IN-FUC%ING-CREDIBLE

  • That is fantastic. Been a fan since 1974 myself, so loved seeing this. Thanks for sharing.

  • This is so fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing this historic concert with us. One of my all time favs.

  • fire it up dude for this one wow. I didn't know about the theatrical side of Todd.

  • this is the same costume he wore when i first saw him at the Akron Civic Theater March 23rd in 1974....wow! i hope you kiddies have seen the current "A Wizard A True Star" tour 2009/2010

  • OLD BRO AND THE ANCESTORS says The Future Was HEAR did ya see it TODD DID a musicans musican HOOTMAN LOST NATIONS

  • Absolutely the best concert I have ever seen was June 22 1974 in Wolman Rink Central Park NYC where they played for 3 hours, the first hour Todd sat at the piano and played ballads mainly from Something Anything.

  • The second hour they started rocking with the rest of the band, and the third hour he had 2 more keyboard players come out and they played electronic stuff like this, and since it was also Todd's birthday, the last 30 minutes were fireworks and the best jamming music of the night WOW!!

  • i was at that show. darryl hall sang with him on "sometimes i don't know what to feel" yes, the fireworks!

  • Why couldn't decent consumer camcorders have existed back then? I wonder if Todd has any good footage from that line-up (definitely his best one, ever)?

  • @cathoderoy lemme know if you ever find any footage!

  • Respond to this video... got any footage of march 23rd,1974 Akron Civic Theater gig?

  • Awesome !

I was 12 years old and making plans for his "Caravan Tour" five years later ... :)

  • Awesome! Seems very much like the show I saw in Richmond 3/10/74.

  • I was looking for the 'Everybodys Going to

  • yes, good job for putting this together-This IS the original Utopia, BEFORE Kasim Sulton, Willie Wilcox..Roger Powell was in this incarnation along with Moogy Klingman, Ralph Schuckett, Kevin Elmen, John Siegler...M Frogg was gone by this time......This I S Vintage Todd Rundgren at his most Tripped-Out..My self and my oldest and Best friend John Webb met Todd and BeBe Buell( the first of many) several months after this concert, in August, 1974-----

  • very cool and great job. you really can get the gist of the show. thx for putting this together...and of course for saving it!

  • too cool. thanks for pulling this together.

i'm still high from the AWATS show at the park west in chicago last night. sheesh. if you were there then you know.

  • i went to his concert last night :) it was great!!!!!

  • What a show. I saw the following tour.

  • I was at the show in Dallas for this tour. It was my very first concert and the first of many of Todd's. It was magical.

  • This is great. I beat you by I think ten days before this at NYC's Carnegie Hall.

  • Amazing! See you in Akron!

  • well this certainly describes his performance on mid-night special at that time. there's none better! thanx for the post!!!!

  • Rundgren, Ellman, Siegler, Klingman, Schuckett. The best musicianship of any TR band.

  • probably the greatest time of my life. I was there at that show, and so many more. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

  • This is absolutey brilliant, thank you so much for sharing.

  • omg...............................

  • I was 16 when i first heard A Wizard..I've been a hard core fan since.I can't say enough about his talent and showmanship..Can't wait for Akron.Tic tic tic......

  • Tic, you can talk, but if you ask me...

  • Amazing, especially the Utopia material, like you said, it's the album cover come to life after 35 years.

  • I can only echo what others have written. It's like the picture on the back of the first Utopia LP came to life. I love his antics in Zen Archer-I wonder if he is up to that these days???

  • great vid. Thanx

  • In my opinion, his best period!

  • Excellent work! Now one of my favorites.

  • This was always one of my favorite covers of Todd's. I never knew he ever did it live. I first saw him in 1975 and paid $ 6.50 to see him and three other bands. What a BARGAIN> I can't wait for the akron show. What a great birthday it will be for me

  • Did you know, Harry his father drew the artwork;Todd TODD & the cookbook. Was a good show back in 75! Can't wait for AWATS show.

  • Wow! I never knew he performed the Nightmare song live,

  • What's as good as Todd Rundgren's best? Nothing. Thank you and goodnight.

  • Mind Blowing!!!!!!!

  • Very interesting. Looks like this was taken on 16mm sound film.

  • Todd made sure you got more then you paid for.Todd is Godd.

  • It is my opinion that these videos are akin to the discovery of the Holy Grail or other great historical event.

  • WOW! I saw this tour 3-4 times! Right before Roger Powell joined, IIRC.

Wow. Great stuff. Not much footage or pics of this version of Utopia!

    Simply... Wow.

    Guido

  • fantastic edit... anyone have a copy of the RA show?..

  • On Tuesday, I got my tickets for the Sept. 6 "A Wizard A True Star" show in the Akron Civic Theater. Todd is going to play AWATS, beginning to end -- from International Feel to Just One Victory. YEA!

I have started a countdown clock on my Facebook page. CAN'T WAIT!!

  • Greatness... I saw him a couple of times around that same time. The whole first set was perplexing until the second set came on... Despite my kids having seen TR many times now, they'll never quite understand the extremes Todd went to back in the day to obliterate nearly every other band back then.

  • This is GREAT! Looking forward to seeing AWATS Sept. 6th in Akron! Good job on this.

  • Great job not only syncing the audio and video, but the infinitely hard job of figuring out what bits go together! You must have listened to the whole thing trying to lip read...even though it's over-exposed and you can barely see Todd's face.

  • Thank you so much, this is wonderful!!!!

  • Fabulous. Those days were amazing and magical. We are so lucky to have lived through them. People who don't know about Todd will never know what they missed.

  • Incredible editing job, cradrock77!

I appreciate the time and effort that it took to sync the audio with the 8mm!!!

This was an awesome look into the past!!!!

  • Cradrock. You're a True Star, a Wizard, also.

  • This is a great contribution. Thanks.

  • Nice synch job! Thanks for sharing!

  • Gio had sent me this silent footage many years ago.. great job with syncing the audio. it brings a whole new life to this extremely rare footage.

  • Thank you!

  • This is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for putting this together and posting.

  • Great piece of history. Glad you had the presence of mind to hang on to it and share it with those who could appreciate it. Actually this is pretty amazing. Thanks.
