  • Don't the eastern religions place just as much emphasis on Mind, not identifying with the body, and seeing the world of appearances as an illusory, deceptive trap? Don't they encourage us to contemplate things like truth, patience, honesty, and compassion, -- rather than trees, rocks, and streams (which, at best, can only reflect these things, and can only arise as projections from the mind)? I don't know if shamanic tribal societies make a distinction between matter and spirit.

  • How do we attain the kind of consciousness desirable for a collective understanding of such complex ideas? Have you ever tried to explain the concept of emptyness to a Texas oil Tycoon?
