@beastmode2312 This was 3 years ago when he was 12. He didn't throw fast at all back then. Our focus was on control and mechanics. He is 15 now and throws his 4 seam between 85-87. His 2 seam is 83-84. We have done a lot of hard work over the last 2 years increasing velocity but protecting his shoulder and elbow from injury. Lots of core training and plyometrics.
@shredgt you don't know what you are talking about. Getting the right arm slot is important to reduce injury and plyometrics and running are the only exercises a 12 year old should do because lifting weights before 16 is damaging to the body. You should really know what you are talking about before you post comments.
@shredgt Number one, I don't push, he does. Number two, if he wants to pitch, he needs to learn the right way to pitch to avoid injury. It is the most stress inducing position on the field.
@24wootwoot - You clearly have no clue what you're talking about. The only flaw in his mechanics was his head alignment at release. He is now 15, throws in the low 80's and was the #1 pitcher on his high school JV team.
@999DethDoUsPart999 Thanks for the input. His release comes from his natural arm slot so we didnt tweak it too much. We focused on plyometric and static drills to strengthen the smaller muscles around the elbow and rotator cuff to reduce stress on those areas. We worked on his core to improve velocity and work on driving further downhill to keep his momentum moving forward. Check out some of his more recent videos.
@ryanace504 - While that speed is impressive, speed is not what pitching is really about. Pitching is about changing the batters timing, changing his eye, placing the ball in spots that will create certain contact. Control first is what i teach, then velocity. If a pitcher can master control, they don't need to be the hardest thrower.
@xxcannon2xx - You are right. there were a couple of things in his mechanics I didn't like. His head was falling off the line and he wasn't using enough lower body in driving off the mound. Check out more recent videos and you will see the improvement. I post this on here for him to be able to go in and track his progress and see his mistakes. Thanks for your feedback.
@150rboy The point of pitching at 12 and 13 years old is not to see how hard you can throw. It's to work on mechanics and develop control while using every part of your body to deliver the ball. Speed and power will come with age and time.
@TheJoemama669 The point of the video is not the velocity. It is the mechanics. This video is two years old. he is 14 now and throws his fast ball in the mid to upper 70's with late movement. He compliments it with a circle change, splitter and knuckle curve.
How fast does he throw?

Release the ball just a little lower and you'll get about 4 more mph on your fastball.

@rn2016 That's impressive that a 17 year old would crush a pitch from a 12 year old. Good luck with that.
vniglio 1 year ago
@vniglio if i was 12 i could crush that.........that pitch was like 50mph
