I SO hate it when fugging music overlays the sounds of the babies. The vid is supposedly about the babies, right? So why play stupid music so we can not HEAR the babies?!
the twins are adorable, but where is the mother? Why aren't they nursing on their mother? I hope this isn't one of these situations where humans decide to take the babies away so the babies are "tamer" with humans in the zoo.
@gorillafan100 I agree - some explanation might make some of us feel better. And the rejection of babies by captive mothers is another thumbs down vote for captivity.
This is extremely sad to see. Baby orangutans stay with their mother for up to 8 years, and for the first year at least, they are constantly attached to the mothers body. Why have these babies been taken away from their mother, who will certainly be experiencing trauma and stress as a result? Also the current enclosure is totally unacceptable to be housing 3 adult orangutans let alone 5.
@aramcitam Excellent point. So many enclosures are unacceptable in size and in the amount of activity or enrichment available. This is true around the world. Spread the word about the Rawa Kuno Legacy Forest project. People can buy an acre of rainforest land to be preserved as wild sanctuary.
The mother rejected them shortly after birth!!

@RReederHunt
The gardens' staff took custody of the twins after they noticed their mother would not breastfeed them.

In captivity mothers very often reject their offspring and have to be reared by zoo staff.
