  • Good sailing - interesting technique for gybing - seems u turn around & change hands before the boom comes across. I've not seen that done before. Looked good at 5:49 but did this mean u lost control at 3:25?

We call it "backward gybe". The advantage is: Immediately after the boom comes over you are in the new racing position with sheet and tiller in the right hands. The disadvantage is the instable moment before the gybe. You have to overcome the fear of the moving boom on your back, but this came normal after a while. At 3:30 I stumbled backwards, felt on the tiller and lost control.

I use the backward technic only for gybing on the reach (buoy 2), do the normal one on downwind!

  • oof! that boom would knock you out! way to be confident.

  • looks awsome! nice pictures. I have an older dinghy and love the idea of being brave enought to make her work like you have yours one day eh?
