I use 3 tires mounted vertically on a 2by4 post for sword practice. It gives multiple angles to train from at many heights and cost $10 to make. You're idea is great and I'd like to try it as well. Thanks for taking the time to put this up!
Awesome; I have a friend/board member who has something like that on wheels with pieces of tires; but it was a bear to cut the tires. How do you mount the tires? and do you mount them whole. If you have a video, or pic, I'd like to see it.
hah, yes sir; just need to "get a round to it" & figure out the angle I would have to put a piece of wood inside the lower tire to screw another longer dowel in : )
@shinseikenpo Sifu, the dowel(thigh) will need to go into the tyre at 15 degrees and attach another piece as a front limb(knees to foot) at 45 degrees at the end of the dowel, maybe screws or a bent 'L' bracket to hold it in place. Hope this helps sir. Oh and use your Kali sticks to practice too on your tyre dummy.
Thanks. Oh, yep, have used the sticks a lot on her... even machetes a few times : )
Fun is to put the single stick on top to the opposite side of the others, and practice the open & close defense, slapping it while slicing with the machete : )
Hey mate..stick a machete in there or a real knife...this will up your awareness level and stop you from mindless going thru your drills like I see you doing. ..just a thought..I tried and it works. also..I had my tire dummy in a corner..how do you keep it stable
Hah, I love it... well, the tires are thrown over the real wave-master bottom which I just fill with water (could use sand). I also keep the red foam thingy in it so they can't slide around as much. ..one thing I did do was train with the machete on the tire master, positioning the single dowel up higher on one side while practicing passing it w/one hand(slapping it) while slicing at the tires with the machete. Did slice into the wood dowel once too.. oops
That is one awesome idea. I`ve seen my share of tire dummies, but it never occured to me to stick arms in it. Obvious once you saw it. Thank you very much for posting.
I imagine the feel is very realistic. Should allow to practice trapping better then on a wooden dummy. Also no worries that rain could ruin the dummy. Just one awesome beauty - certainly in my eyes.
Thanks. I've had alot of fun with it, including using it for sticks & knives (knives/machettes on the tires, not the wood, hah), plus I can change the altitude of the dowels by just switching tire locations : )
Thanks. The only complaint I have, is that if I don't have it covered when it rains, it tends to collect water in the tires, thus mosquitos as well, : ( - even though I drilled some holes in the tires. Oh well. Been thinking of making the arms a little heavier/thicker also.
Thanks. I'm trying to figure out where to find larger diameter wooden dowels. I may put plastic tubing over the ones I have - even spray in that hardening stuff or something to eventually make them a bit heavier & wider : )
@shinseikenpo try using shovel handles. interesting choice, but part of the point of using a muk jong is resistance/isometric training that and a solid muk jong is unforgiving both in teaching the movements/forms during speed drills (in that it builds muscle memory by not allowing to move where you shouldn't) and in its toughening of your limbs. I wish you luck in your journey!
@PikeyBlu Thanks for the tip.... hadn't thought of shovel handles. As for the real muk jong & being unforgiving & the actual movements/form training, I know - you are right. Oh well. One fun thing is being able to put the single one high & spin it around to a different side and then practice an open-close defense from the Arnis with a Bolo/machete : )
lol! Michelin Fu; I like it. Yep, pretty fun. I changed the height by switching the tires around afterwards & liked it better; - one of the advantages of the tires just thrown on the wave master : ) - could have found some thicker, or heavier, dowels though...
