I think treating POWs well is also rather strategic. Soldiers will most likely resist harder if , they know that their enemies are going to torture and kill them in captivity but if they knew that they will get better treatment as POWs, they will most likely surrender then to fight. I think treating POWs well is also rather strategic. Soldiers will most likely resist harder if , they know that their enemies are going to torture and kill them in captivity but if they knew that they will get better treatment as POWs, they will most likely surrender then to fight. Kinda like Bribe.

And it was not a crushing defeat for india in 1962. Indian Army had considerable success in certain sectors and launched counter attacks in the north east which eventually led the Chinese to withdraw, which they now claim to be because of good will.
