it being released in 2 weeks, so i thought ill upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 now. if u want to. all u have to do is " alt-f2" and type "update manager -d" and the update manager pops up and u can upgrade to 9.10. gl all, watch my vids for more help. noob out
You are right. It's a live cd image booted in virtualbox. Once it's installed on HDD it should be much faster by my experience. And Ubuntu 9.10 was planed to be much faster then the previous releases. We'll see on 29th if it is true.
How about next time we don't get a cheesy music video but SOMETHING that's more in keeping with explaining, describing or showing-off the OS instead in a coherent, explanatory, informative, fun, useful way eh? if I want a music video I'll look for one specifically, until then, just do what you're best at, enjoying, using and promoting Ubuntu; eh? Not so hard is it?
For what this is: 4/10,.. Good, but needs drastic improvement.
The beta is slow. and now their trying to make it look good cause Windows 7 came out. I miss the fading background when you change the Background on 9.10 beta. They still need to work on it.
No, do not attempt to upgrade. It more than likely will not take and you'll end up doing a full re-install. If you want to risk it, back up everything important to you.
lol wtf thats 100% what i did. i tried the beta and no video files would play flv, wmv nothing flash was messed up big time so i just did a full re-installation
I've just got it installed on my old ThinkPad T30 (Pentium 4M 1.8GHz, 768MB RAM, ancient Radeon graphics...), alongside an evaluation copy of Windows 7. Ubuntu is way, way faster than Windows 7 (which also runs surprisingly well, considering the antiquity of the hardware). But which will I use everyday? Ubuntu, every time - it's just a much nicer environment in which to actually be productive. I just wish they'd polish up the interface a bit more - and too much brown (but easily changed)...
Of course it's unstable.... it's a BETA version. I had to re-install it after downloading graphics drivers but so what. It's a free OS so quit your bitching.
Ubiuntu the best!!!

Does that update everything? I mean will I get that smexy loading screen also or it'll update just the base of the system?

It should upgrade everything. You will get the latest build of Ubuntu 9.10, then just keep installing updates and you will have the final on 29th.

Let me guess. You were installing something, then closed the menu/terminal/app and now it won't install. Of course not then. Broken Packages.

No. I installed it and have no sound. Apparently (apparently) everyone who installed beta has some sort of problem.

The beta is quite stable, but it is still in development and updates might still break things.
