Pelosi drew derision from her critics for telling the Web site Politico this week that she was blocking a vote on offshore drilling because "I'm trying to save the planet".

1. it will take time to come online 3-5 years

2. it will be sold on the international market, foreign nations will buy up any surplus

3. there is insufficient oil to make energy independence

4. will only help oil companies

Republicans will win on the issue because they are lying to voters, the voters have been fooled into thinking the driling helps, i hope they educate themselves before casting ballot.

First, will or will we not be using oil in 3 to 5 years from now, of coarse the answer is yes. Second, we are running a huge trade deficit, that will be gigantic next year because the price of oil has doubled, so it would make economic sense to drill our own oil, if it gets sold over seas our trade deficit goes down, if we use it then we import less and our trade deficit goes down, it's a win, win situation. It's only part of the solution. Stop crying about oil companies making money.

The price of oil will go up as global reserves deplete, if your going to risk the environmental damage do it for a higher price maybe $300 or $500 a barrel.

I dont care if the oil companies make money, they should not be taking advantage of consumer fears to push through their own agenda. Decisions like this should not be made under pressure, i say put up a few more rigs in currently tapped fields.

3. This is an interim plan, combined with hydro, solar, natural gas, etc. we can be independent.

123bigr -Google "facts about non producing leases". Many "idle" leases are not idle but under evaluation. Mostly this land is unproven for oil. Oil companies pay billions for these leases that may yield nothing, why not let them drill in proven areas? The 68 million aren't untouched, they are being explored and developed if proven.

The outer continental shelf & ANWR were explored 30 years ago and known contain oil but were closed due to environmental complaints. That's where to drill!

We need to drill in ANWR, it was set aside by Carter for drilling, we also need offshore, also strict reform on enviromental lawsuits that halt progress. Drilling off the coast is NOT self suffieciency, If America used purely US drilled oil all the resources will be drained in 2 years, then it will be back to the Arab countries with cup in hand and zero leverage due to no reserve at home.

IF off shore reserves + and ANWR where tapped it would take 5 years for the oil to reach the pump and prices would be lowered by about 1%.

The oil companies are lobbying to drill purely for their own profit, they are using the pain of the consumer for gain.

The US consumes 20 million barrels each day, thats 7 Billion a year. How will the oil last 60 years?

Go beyond the talking point and see who is pushing for the oil drilling, its all lobbied for by oil companies.

Even if the oil is drilled it wil be placed on the international market and India + China will buy it up, the price WILL NOT CHANGE!!!
