I think both Shawn and Nastia are amazing gymnasts. Before the Olympics I thought Shawn was going to win, but after seeing Nastia's performance, Nastia totally deserved to win.

Without any doubt, Nastia Liukin is the best gymnast in the women team. That's undeniable. The fact that she accepted her runner-up position at the uneven bars event shows the world what sportsmanship is.

LISTEN, Being Younger doesnt give you an advantgeous. The minimum age was raised to protect young athletes from serious injuries. The Age restriction shouldn't be there in the first place.
So if a younger person beat USA = USA must really suck.

I've seen documentaries in my university courses dealing with how the Chinese gov tries to cover up the T-square incident. Most young people know nothing about it, hence it being a human rights protest.
Also, there is no "freedom of religion" for the Chinese people. There are restrictions. You would be persecuted for practicing several popular religions.
The United States, among other world powers, were not allowed to protest the Olympics, though originally promised. There were supposed to be designated areas of protest, but in the end the Chinese deported protesters back to wherever they came from in fear of encouraging its own citizens they too could disagree with the communist government.
Also, to prevent overpopulation there are one-child rules and the government may force you to get an abortion if you become pregnant again.
I admit I'm not an avid olympics fan so I can't comment on your first point, but I strongly doubt it's validity.
I yawn at your second point. That has been the case MORE THAN 30 YEARS AGO, when the policy was just in place. Those policies makers were indeed totalitarian. Recently, many new policies came in place and old ones amended. Now rural areas are allowed more than 1 kid (they need manpower for the fields etc), while certain cities are allowed TWO children per couple. UPDATE YOURSELF.
I do not disagree with the lacking of freedom of speech, but it is not a definite "no". The Chinese government has been trying to open up to new ideas, so much so that there has been a backlash in e younger generation.
And as to NO "freedom of religion", maybe it would surprise you that when I visited Shanghai, by going around on the expressway I counted more than 5 churches, standing prominently among other buildings. Maybe you should visit some Chinese cities too.
But gymnastics wise I love Nastia Liukin soooooo much. My roomies were getting annoyed by me because I forced them to watch every single thing she competed in. I even gave them the play by play of her routines.
Yeah, I was bummed when she lost bars, but that doesn't even compare to how elated I was when she won AA!

I think both Shawn and Nastia are amazing gymnasts. Before the Olympics I thought Shawn was going to win, but after seeing Nastia's performance, Nastia totally deserved to win.

Shawn is not so slim, elegant, beautiful in her movements. Liukin have the right lines in order to make the gymnastics "artistic".Shawn is totally more powerful....but this sport have to be elegant, is not just "force".

I was totally pissed off by the so-called fcuking "Princess" Nastia and her dad's ugly playing around the judges. At least, the all around gold was supposed to be belong to Shean Johnson, AN ACTUALLY PRINCESS!!!
Without her dad's help around the judges, Nastia Lukin, with the ugliest frag landing, probably got nothing!!! If imaging her as a Russian, not an american, most of ur american idiots propably complained unfaired judge system for the AA girl 2008 because the true champion should be SJ.

only one thing to say: since when does "i got the top score and I am not #1" became an olympic rule? un-freaking-believalbe.
i know in the states we don't have many ties but at least have overtime or someting...
why not have tie-breakers such as: "if you are an NBA player the points you score is halved" or "in case of a tie in score, lets have all chinese viewers vote via cell phone for the champion like those american game shows..."

Being younger does give you the advantage!
When you're like 13 you lose a lot of your elasticity. However, I'm not neive enough to blame their gov't for that, but lets face all this is a tad sketchy.
Plus that new judging system is lame, she totally got her medal taken away, which is jacked. They should have atleast awarded both of them the gold for the uneven bars.

LISTEN, Being Younger doesnt give you an advantgeous. The minimum age was raised to protect young athletes from serious injuries. The Age restriction shouldn't be there in the first place.
So if a younger person beat USA = USA must really suck.
FYI, for those of you who use this gymnast controversy to DISS THE WHOLE CHINA, youre stupid. it has nothing to do with the govt. The controversy was first REPORTED by China's own news. Would u blame all those USA steroids users on the USA govt?

And to both HollisterGirl326 and domenico83, as much as human rights is presumably universal, each country has its right to fine tune it according to the cultural context. Just because something is deemed a "human rights violation" in the West doesn't mean the 1.5billion population of Chinese necessarily agrees. And I do smell some jealousy here, since China obviously topped the chart with overwhelming number of Gold medals.

2)Americans aren't jealous? Ok give me an alternative explanation of WHY they decided to put themselves at the top of the chart, when they so-called topped it with a bunch of bronzes.

It is a known fact that the Chinese gov imprisons those who voice their opinion. Unlike the western world, there is no "freedom of speech." I've seen documentaries in my university courses dealing with how the Chinese gov tries to cover up the T-square incident. Most young people know nothing about it, hence it being a human rights protest.
Also, there is no "freedom of religion" for the Chinese people. There are restrictions. You would be persecuted for practicing several popular religions.

The United States, among other world powers, were not allowed to protest the Olympics, though originally promised. There were supposed to be designated areas of protest, but in the end the Chinese deported protesters back to wherever they came from in fear of encouraging its own citizens they too could disagree with the communist government.
Also, to prevent overpopulation there are one-child rules and the government may force you to get an abortion if you become pregnant again.

I admit I'm not an avid olympics fan so I can't comment on your first point, but I strongly doubt it's validity.
I yawn at your second point. That has been the case MORE THAN 30 YEARS AGO, when the policy was just in place. Those policies makers were indeed totalitarian. Recently, many new policies came in place and old ones amended. Now rural areas are allowed more than 1 kid (they need manpower for the fields etc), while certain cities are allowed TWO children per couple. UPDATE YOURSELF.

I do not disagree with the lacking of freedom of speech, but it is not a definite "no". The Chinese government has been trying to open up to new ideas, so much so that there has been a backlash in e younger generation.
And as to NO "freedom of religion", maybe it would surprise you that when I visited Shanghai, by going around on the expressway I counted more than 5 churches, standing prominently among other buildings. Maybe you should visit some Chinese cities too.

Yeah, I was bummed when she lost bars, but that doesn't even compare to how elated I was when she won AA!

Actually the situation is still pretty bad since the Tiananmen Square. The demonstration in TS was originally about the globalization and poverty both of which have grown. Theres about 4 million people protesting every recent year compared to about 10,000 a decade ago. You should update your information.
