As far as rolling in your lips/not rolling in your lips, is a bit of a philosophy difference. My private teacher taught me to roll them in. A good friend of mine who is a professional oboe player rolls hers in, and both of the private teachers that teach in my school district roll there's in. So now I roll mine in.
Some people have been having their embochure wrong for years.You place the reed where the wet part of your lip starts. On oboe you don't roll in your lips and you have to make sure the corners of your mouth are as firm as possible. Your jaws and teeth should be far away from the reed if your putting the read in right. Just adding some stuff Ive learned this yr and afew things you might have left out (:
Hey. I am switching to oboe this coming year for band, and I was told I had to get a sort of 'cracking' sound, like trying to get between two notes. I am just trying to get playing the reed part right, and don't think I am getting it right. I know how to hold it, but I can't figure out how to get proper sound. I used a fibercane because that's what I had.

To me it looks like you are teaching people to put way to much reed in the mouth. You will always play really sharp if you play with that much reed.
