As a Blues fan I will forever see this goal in my nightmares. I don't like the Red Wings but I don't see how anyone can hate Steve Yzerman. You want to but you can't. You want to stop him but you can't do that either. He was just too good.
What a great goal. Wings lost in the next round if I recall...hopefully this year won't be another playoff disappointment after winning Presidents trophy, just like 96...and too many times to count since.

And yes you can snipe a slap shot. Not as easy as a wrister, but I pick the corners with my slapshot all the time. Yzerman wasn't lucky, he put the shot right where he wanted and took it right when he wanted. Was a goal for the ages!
The main resaon that shot went in was not because Yzerman's shot was such a great snipe, it was because Yzerman took the shot at the perfect moment, when he had a screen from Blues D-man Murray Baron. Casey couldn't see the shot when it was released.
Some people say Casey should of had that shot. Some people are idiots. Steve picked that corner from the blueline with a shot that can only be discribed as a rocket. Incredible goal.
If you have ever held a hockey stick you will know that you can not "snipe" a slap shot. Even the pros will tell you, "you either aim high or low and thats pretty much it" TBH Stevie got lucky on that.

I remember that shot. I stayed up to watch it. I believe it was the first minute of the second or third overtime. A great finish.
