@darthduck1000 neither of us can reasonably define the "fair share" in any quantitative terms, but we don't have to. we can assume the "fair share" is what's already been set by the progressive tax system, minus the Bush tax cuts. we experienced tremendous job and output growth under Clinton's tax arrangements, everybody was paying their "fair share" and the wealthy hardly complained, because they were doing so well. Corporate tax laws, however, still require serious revision.

According to my numbers, over a 30-year career, a couple could expect to pay over $107,000 more using 1998′s numbers than they would using 2008′s tax rates. Now, in all fairness, I must mention that the likelihood of tax brackets NOT changing over a 30-year career is slim to none. But, as they stand right now, the middle class is paying less in federal income taxes now than they were when Clinton was in office.

If the later Republican Congress could be credited with having any part in the boom, it'd mostly be their reducing the cap. gains tax to encourage market investment, which as we can see today didn't turn out to be such a good idea.

In the 21st century Republicans have become the new zombies with the Tea Parties & the Birther/Truther movement. Times change and so does the mentality of a political party. Birth certificate is real, Bin Laden has been laid to rest and Republicans are doubtful zombies. If GWB was in office and Osama was killed, Republicans would not have questioned anything, no one would have. End of story the true colors of Republicans have been shown. in defence of fdr. the consentration camps were used to isolate people that the government feared would give information to the japanese government. they were not killed (as in germany) they were treated well but certain rights were taken away. i am not defending the move, i am just trying to put it into perspective. to associate them with hitler camps is a total falsehood. it was done in a move to protect americans from the empire of japan's military...a lot like the patriot act! gotcha!!!
