I think there's one thing about the battle of Ohma D'un that you're forgetting. Swamp gas, the Star Wars equivalency to mustard gas, only it kills faster. The gungans unfortunately were slaughtered by it. If, by some miracle, there were any survivors, don't you think they'd be wearing some sort of gas-protection gear to keep from getting it on their skin, in their eyes, or even swallowing a lungful of it.
