Ahhh sad baby : (, Ella is such a perfect name, cause she most assuredly is a rags to riches story. I'm glad she's ok now. Do you think that the way her mom and dad treated her as a baby maybe is why she's so independent?
Thanks for the comments... Ella is a joy to our home...but she just chewed a hole in my couch... so she's on my "list" until I get it repaired or replaced. Grrrrrr!!!!
Yes it was terrible... we took good care of her as soon as we got her. She had a really good appetite and you can see on my page how she progressed. This was a couple of years back. Now she's a big fat happy female umbrella cockatoo with a full crown. I love my baby ella!
So are you saying she was abused and ruined by her NATURAL BIRD PARENTS, or by the humans who previously owned her? I can believe that the humans may have tortured her, but for her to be rejected by her own NATRUAL mom and dad is pretty horrible!
Umbrella Cockatoos will only care for one chick. If they feel they have to much to handle they will not care for and sometimes abuse the one they've chosen to push out of the next. Especially when they're in a cage. The "original owner" is in my opinion also responsible. I'm just glad I got her in time. She would not have made it without our intervention. She's now a grown healthy Umbrella. Just the sweetest ting. I'll try and post new videos of her soon.
Sure, that's a natural instinct, but you would think they would do something more ethical for the chick they can't care for instead of try to kill it. Well, it's good thay YOU became her NEW parent! I'll bet Ella just WORSHIPS you now, as you gave her a whole new life!
Yes...she was in sad shape when I took charge of her. Her original human "parent" was the worst... I need to post some new clips of her now. She's grown into a very cute adult-juvenile chick very sweet with a voracious appetite. Thanks for the comment!
Not really... We live in Arizona... This chick was hatched and raised outside in Tucson Arizona. She was a rescued chick as it's parents had two eggs and Ella's was the last to hatch. Umbrella's only raise one chick at a time. She's fully featherd now and quite the rascal... Thanks for the comment. Do you have a pet bird? HAPPY MONDAY! ,RODAN
They even plucked off her umbrella feathers off her crown? SICK! How can those cockatoos even THINK of killing their own child? While WE end up having to pay as much as $800 for a newborn Umbrella cockatoo!
Cockatoos think differently than humans. It's a natural instinct. In the wild, if there is a food shortage, the parent cockatoos can only feed so much in their family.
