I played this on local radio amongst some completely unrelated tracks (from the likes of Warp electronica artists, Tom Waits, some shoegaze stuff.. mm variety). I hope I wasn't the only one who enjoyed it.
also sousuke not to give this guy any credit but you pretty much said "this is a masterpiece of 20th century music, any cultured person would like this" and "music is subjective" in the same conversation, pick one side or the other dude
Music has two components: the subjective one (style, aesthetics, language..) and the objective one (complexity, construction, structure..). If you know a little of music you can't say that you dislike the ideas behind this composition. At the most you can dislike his style but the construction and the geniality beneath it are not an opinion.
Well, then anybody can say that Dante was an idiot and Beethoven couldn't write music only because he don't like their ideas. If your brain is not damaged you should be able to recognize genius, independently from what you like. For example, I dislike Wagner's operas but I recognize them as masterpieces.
Dear morearrows, I like to discuss about music but I don't allow insults, trash talk and lame discussions. I'll delete your comments until you are able to bring some strong arguments. Your current ideas are only subjective observations and don't scratch at all Ligeti's greatness. Our perception of music is far more complex than what you think. Try listen something else of Ligeti, don't limit yourself. Bye.
That's your (quite childish) opinion. This is a masterpiece from one of the most important composers of the whole 20th century. I like it and so do people who know something of music (or culture in general). I think Carroll himself would love it.
@sousukesagaraJKD Aye; and that's only your petulant opinion! However children have a habit of having knowing so little about things that they often produce the most splendid of truths, and in this case the king has no clothes on is very appt! This rude mechanical racket is terrible, and I dont care how expert the surgeons who took the original "pleasantly living thing" to bits tell us the are, the bottom line is that the tune is now a corpse!
This is a lame discussion. Music is a language and it has many nuances. The question is: I am a musician and enjoy both listening to Bach and Ligeti, or Mozart and Messiaen, because I understand their languages. So, I'm sorry for you because you're limited and can't enjoy such wonderful music. However speaking of tune is inappropriate. We are not in 1700 anymore, there are 300 years that you missed. I repeat: sorry for you.
@sousukesagaraJKD Oh sad creature, This is a horrible corruption of an otherwise cheerful entertaining song! If this broken racket is the culmination of 300 years of collective effort from those attempting to lay claim to academic achievement, then they are no longer of any worth to society! They should make their way, heads bowed in disgrace to some distant desert surrounded cave, and bang out their perverse rap so far from the madding crowd that they annoy us not with their awful screech!
I repeat: you're very childish. You can't accept that music is not something you can judge in an objective way. You can determine if there's originality, complexity, creativity. The rest is your personal opinion and depends by your education, your culture (try making listen Mozart to an Aborigine) and your open-mindedness. Now, go and live your life with your little convictions. Bye.
@sousukesagaraJKD What conceated drivel, (I can't accept that music is not something you can judge in an objective way?) Pompus prat! You’re asinine presumption is based on your conceat, which comes from your ego far outweighing your ability, If you lot have anything of the wit you struggle to claim, then simply produce from roots instead of butchering someone elses creation into this awfull conflict! This is the work of an rude mechanc!
First: learn to write English clearly and correctly.
Second: I actually am studying composition and I write music, so I speak for myself and for whom I consider a great master.
Third: reply when you have arguments to confute my assumptions. Music is a subjective matter. We have not the same sensibility of an asian or african man. For example, indian music is farther from the european style than Ligeti's works. Tonality is not a universal rule. It was a way to compose in Europe.
I become angry when someone writes rubbish saying that it's the Truth. I'm not better than most but I read and study before speaking nonsense and I demand that others do the same, otherwise they are making me waste my time. It's only a form of respect.
@ATtTheGates There you go, straight from the horses mouth, It reads & studies before it talks nonsense! Just " we presume" to make absolutly sure that it realy is talking nonsense! Oh & it "DEMANDS" that others do the same!!!! something about this creature, tells me that it's been wasting it's time for a while, & will continue in this till it dies! as for respecting anything as mindlessly pompus as this idiotic twit,,,, !
