  • One of the favorite in my household- Miss hearing the music!

  • My dad used to play and sing this when I was kid...lots of memories there.

  • Fantastic songs, both of them. Both Charlie and John are severely missed and always will be. Sincerely.

  • The second song is called "I've Come to Take You Home" by the Seldom Scene

  • If you listen very closely, the first group is the original country gentlemen! Charlie Waller lead vocals and guitar,Eddie Adcock-Banjo,Tom Gray-Bass,and the unreplaceable John Duffey on mandolin and tenor vocals!! Two of the greatest groups ever HANDS DOWN!

  • very special song and story

  • This is "Bringing Mary Home" by the Country Gentlemen, the sequel is "I've Come to Take You Home" by the group Seldom Scene.

  • duffey!

  • This is an old ghost story set to music, variants of the tale predate automobiles. No one has come forward and claimed to be the actual person who took Mary home, everyone just says that "it happened near me" or "I know the guy" or something like that.

  • can you please some one tell me who is singing this i really like this song

  • the first song always send shivers down my spine, great song

  • banjo sounds more like Eddie Adcock style with the Gentlemen

  • Im from kentucky & my dad & uncles used to sing this all the time.. i never knew it was a real song though.... thats awesome... total blast from my childhood

  • did u fine out where did this happen couse i was told in happen somewhere here in kentucky

  • Seldom Scene is the group performing the second half. The arrangement was written by Duffey and recorded .. I don't recall on which album .. The Country Gentlemen at the time of this particular recording were Charlie Waller, Doyle Lawson, Bill Yates and Bill Emerson. The Seldom Scene consisted of John Starling, John Duffey, Mike Auldridge, Tom Gray and Ben Eldridge. The Country Gentlemen's recording here was from the Live in Japan CD.

  • Great music! If you've heard the story of Mary Denise Lands in Marshall, Michigan this song and others are inspirations for many especially her family.

The 5th anniversary of her disappearance is March 12, 2009.

Take a moment to learn more about Mary's case.

    Search- Mary Denise Lands

Were going to pass this song along & maybe,... just maybe, this song will touch the heart of one witness, who will call the Michigan State Police and answer our question, Where is Mary?

    Thank you.

    Jim Carlin

  • They sound very similar. Excellent version.

  • marcus, this version has charlie waller singing lead and doyle lawson, who later formed doyle lawson and quicksilver, mostly gospel bluegrass.singing harmony.

  • Do you know anything about the second song?

  • jefferyb304; the 2nd song is called i've come to take you home, john duffey wrote it and performed it with the seldom scene. he never song bringing mary home with the seldom scene after leaving the country gentleman, although charlie waller and other harmony singers continued doing the classic song. duffey sung lead on the original as waller and ed adcock the banjo player sung harmony. bringing mary home was the title song from an album the gents done in 1961..

  • This is really interesting. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • Hi, what really grabs me is , it wasn't long after John wrote that song, Mary did come & take him home..........how sad, it does give creditability to that song..........D

  • The Seldom Scene did perform "Bringing Mary Home", but never recorded it.
