I love it how in the first scene the arms comes out of the water, grabs his arms, and they all go on like nothing happened, just barely surprised. Danes were tough people :)
Is grendel troll in this movie? Cause I remember in the original folk tale he was a giant troll. It seems some who translate it translate him as just a monster which is a bit incorrect. It is sad they changed the trolls so much into a kiddie thing instead of what it used to be in old nordic culture.
She doesn't even try to put on an accent... I know english accent shouldn't equal all old european languages.... but keep it consistent, sarah polly....
A quite amazing version of the epic Beowulf poem: The fantastic landscape of Island, the land of ice and fire, is the only fit place to stage the old Norse myths; the actors bring their characters to live (save I cannot abide King Hrodgar as a mental wreak) the music is suitable; and the idea to include the slaying of Grendel’s father as the motive of his bloody feud with the Danes is at least creative; but I do not like the sorceress and her lectures to Beowulf about Troll rights.
And the Irish missionary combating the true Gods of old with his puny Christ is quite entertaining: Instead of being happy when the Gods award them with beer and the honour to light the funeral pile of their friends they wanted salvation and the eternal life; this is by the way the best depiction how the Germans and Vikings must have experience the Christian missionaries; and the honour is well depicted as the characters take life and its miseries not that much serious.
Not to mention that all scenes are played by real human actors in realistic armour and weapons! No dull computer monsters and no stupid acrobatics as is found else in the mythological movies, especially the American ones; only the lack of poetic speech is a true grain of salt as they should have strived harder to let the dialogue sound like the original poetry and I totally love the end, when the Vikings conclude that the story of Cain & Abel is utter nonsense.
My favorite part of the movie is when the Caveman tries to steal the leprechaun and then the horse people shoot him off of a cliff. But then the caveman comes back for revenge!
As I understood it Grenel was a jealous asshole who killed everyone because they had parties without him. He wasn't a huge, fun loving retard, as portrayed in this film.
Wow you really don't have alot of understanding of art or literature do you? Grendel is a giant monster that attacked Heoret in the Old English poem Beowulf. Here he's given a bit more of a sympathetic portrayal and a reason as to why he did it other than for cruelty and bloodlust. It's actually pretty good. It's not boring or lame if that is what you meant to spell.
@CaptainHeroNr1 Have you never heard of Beowulf? It's one of the oldest and arguably best known texts in the English language. If you've had a decent enough education you'd at least have heard of it, but I guess you haven't for that last bit is not any kind of English I know of.
I apologize if English is not your first language, but here's a helpful tip: writing that way doesn't make you look cool on the Internet, just ignorant and stupid.

If the Christian missionaries were so ridiculous they would have converted the Danes.

I love how realistic this movie is instead of the newest Grendel movie when Grendel is suppose to be only an evil monster.
