Terry wogan seems to present shows like they are a bit shit. Its a british trate that admiting things are crap you instantly make it better. If this was an american version it would be big and glittery and larger than life.
my mate's Dad was the voice announcing the guests. He got paid a packet apparently. This was based on a US show wasn't it? Or did we think of it first? (It does happen you know.)
Yes, it was based off from "Match Game '73" by Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions which aired from 1973 - 1979 on CBS-TV and in syndication from 1979 - 1982.
@kresblain I wasn't taking about the nighttime version, I was talking about the daily syndicated version which aired right after the CBS daytime show was cancelled. The PM version aired with both versions which was from 1975-1981.
@kresblain No... Match Game '73 was a daily show from 1973 to 1979 on CBS-TV... when it was cancelled by CBS in 1979, the show moved to daily syndication from 1979 - 1982. Match Game PM was weekly and ran co-sided with the daytime Match Game from 1975 - 1981.
The stand with the questions isn't anchored down properly, it nearly gets dislodged when the turntable stops!

It was certainly 'imported' as MGHSFAN says! I'm not sure now whether it was Alan Boyd or Marcus Plantin who made the deal to use the format!
The voice on the opening titles is the late (and sadly missed) Tony Hawes who was married to Stan Laurel's daughter Lois!
Happy memories of those halcyon days of 'real' television !

@MGHSFAN Um... "Match Game PM" was syndicated from 1976 to 1982; you were off by 3 years. :P
Oh, and thank you, Craig Ferguson! *thumbs up*

my God, opening titles have come a long way in 25 years! I'm guessing "Blankety'Blank" was always a little cheesy though.
