I always hear this bs about people needing 6 liters a day. I drink two cups of coffee and thats it sometimes in a day and by golly if I'm not fine. I couldn't force myself to drink 6 liters of water in a day. Maybe I could but I wouldn't want to. 2 liters would be more than enough. Now if I was doing vigorous excercise maybe I would need 6 but I doubt it. I have done some serious hiking and 3 nalgenes a day sufficed.
RC Volunteer - Get your facts straight. Thousands of HydroPacks were shipped to Haiti. The HydroPack, when purchased in bulk (ie. tens of thousands) cost next to nothing. The HydroPacks saved hundreds of people's lives.
@mantaventures my facts straight what I have learn from highly trained Medical staff that happen to be Family told me that in her area there still no HydroPacks for the Gen. Public of Haiti. They are no longer looking for a way preventing the spread of it... They are strongly in need of IV kit bags and Distill Water and Treating it
oh gee I made a comment five months ago about this I did not like it then but now to hear thousands of these are handed out to Haitians @ $64.oo each X-pack to only make one Liter of water in five hours is not enough a human being needs 6 Lit of water per day not one the Company selling these things to the disaster crews / units are STEALING !!!
@RCvolunteer1978 Sorry but you are wrong. Haiti is however a truely sad story. Their entier history has been one of throwing off the yolk of one oppressor only to put on the yolk of the next. Even before Papa Doc and Baby Doc, the Haiti has been a social justice experiment of the UN. This has caused the people of Haiti to become dependant on everything. Very few Haitians were involved in the rescue operation in the UN areas but tons in the US areas.
@RCvolunteer1978 The current cholera outbreak was quickly traced to Nepalese Peacekeepers. So the UN started a new study to verify instead of taking steps to mitigate. Second test confirmed that the colera strain was one only found in Nepal. So the UN embarked on a third study to find out how this happened instead of mitigating the probelm. Third study discovered what the Nepalese troops said just after the outbreak started. UN workers were dumping portable latrrines into the river.
@Robbob9933 Study after Study When from my people it was a little different then that But UN troops did not correctly get rid of the waste Because the higher
ups thought that these troops knew the correct way of doing things...and/or was lead by trusted trained personal that could do it right ...
@RCvolunteer1978 As of last week, almost 800,000 Haitians are infected with cholera and still the UN has not finished it's study on how to start curative treatment and will only allow support treatment.
@Robbob9933 yes I know this Sir: I have been disaster worker since 1978 trained in Mass Care feeding and watering up to 2,000 people in one shelter but most of my personal worker Do do some work in the hot Florida sun repairing patching roofs need the 6 lit /day but the avg person here in FL does drink over 4 lit during the month of Aug Do truly Sorry Sir; But I personally do not know or care how it is in the Northern States
6 hours? I could strain the same amount of water through some coffee filters and boil it in less than 1 hour, and I can do that for more than 10 days. If starting a fire is a problem for tactical purposes then you could just bring along some rubbing alcohol to use for a smokeless fuel source with only a dim blue flame. Make a stove out of an old tin can and boil your water on it. It also obviously doubles as an antiseptic.
msr/katadyn filters breaking or clogging is as likely as that xpack bag puncturing. at least w/ the pump filters, you don't have to wait 6hrs for osmosis to complete - you can it instantly
Visit us to see the X-Pack and other water filtraion systems that are even better. We even have one that is like the X-Pack, but it converts salt water into a survival drink.

@RCvolunteer1978 Most people who are not involved in heavy physical activity would die of renal failure by drinking 6 liters/day.
Robbob9933 1 year ago
@Robbob9933 The people ARE involved with heavy physical activity and Mental
stress Besides do you not SHARE your water to others that need it as you are digging people out of their homes
